5AT Supercharged CL-S

Alright, So I went through the search and it didn't do much help so help me out a-cl.

I'm planning to install a supercharger by the end of this year and wanted to make some comparisons on the 5AT CL-S ONLY.

1) How much is a supercharger from Comptech?

2) How much is installation?

3) What are the whp, torque after installation?

4) NEWBIE QUESTION: What's boost? Anyone have a totally THOROUGH explanation to help me understand this "boost."

DISCUSS!

i do not think i can help with all of your questions but i did buy my compteck supercharger for 4500 dollors and paid 500 to install it. i am thinking about selling it though because the performance was not what i expected. i will take 3000 for it if you are interested. i blew my tranny 1 week after i had it installed so if there is 100 miles on it that is alot

1) go to www.comptechusa.com for their actual price. I think 4495 if I remember correctly? but can be had cheaper, brand new at www.c-c-c.net
2) Not too sure, assuming you can find someone to install it. Its probably different everywhere, ask your local acura dealers and performance shops.
3) www.comptechusa.com will also have dynograph charts telling you how much of a gain you will see in whp and wtq. It is not as much as the 6spd.
4) BOOST is what the supercharger creates. Like a turbo, it compresses air and forces it into your engine in PSI (pounds per square inch). More air + More fuel = more power. A normal engine creates a vacuum, in which it tries to suck air in. The supercharger will create BOOST, or compressed air and it will force itself into the engine.

I don't think its a waste. I love it. The power increase is enough to run a 13.67 1/4 mile. What are your expectations?

To understand what boost really is you have to understand what the ambient pressure is. You know that at sea level the ambient air pressure is about 14.7 PSI absolute (when compared to an absolute vacuum) or nearly 30 inHg. You can get the actual ambient pressure by watching the weather and seeing the barometric pressure reading.

Anything above ambient pressure is boost, anything below is considered vacuum. Most pressure gauges use the ambient pressure as the reference side in which case this becomes a gage measurement.

Your engine is always running under varying amounts of vacuum when normally aspirated. At WOT the vacuum is very low as the paths are more open allowing more air in and getting it closer to ambient pressure. In park or on decel you have a high vacuum situation because the throttle is closed but the engine is still trying to get air in.

When you add forced induction you are adding a method to push more air in than the engine could pull its self. When the devices forces in more air to increase the pressure over ambient (barometric) pressure you have now created boost.

Using the following example:

14.7 absolute ambient atmospheric pressure (barometric pressure)
19.7 absolute manifold pressure

19.7 - 14.7 = 5 PSI boost

Now go up to Denver or even higher, maybe at 12k feet elevation where the barometric pressure is at 13.0 PSI but you now have an absolute manifold pressure of 20.0 PSI.

20.0 - 13.0 = 7 PSI boost.

Hope this helps. Just FYI, most boost gauges are gage measurements.

People who state the SC is not worth it should read this:

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...hreadid=117218

And for those posting just to be heard or can't afford the SC, STFU. :P

Red Rider's '01 CLS with CT Intake/Headers/Exhaust/SC dyno'd at 269 WHP/220 FT LBS TQ. He since added the CT b-pipe so he might see an addition 5-8 WHP hopefully.

.... you haters struck a cord with Scalbert..

And just so you guys know that is not the final costs, you better be able to front up another 250 + for misc. items. and another 400+ dollars for gauges if you want to know what is going on.

51R Battery--70 bucks
Mugen temp/fan switch/cap/water wetter--160.00
Coolant--10.00
Higher boost pulley--60.00
Misc. hoses and clamps.--20.00

I am in the process of getting ready to install another board members Supercharger next week and I just bought all the misc. parts I am going to need to do it....and he is over $260.00 in misc. parts that I have to supply for the gauges and S/C'er to be installed..

If you can afford it, it is worth it. What a silly question, It is alot faster than a stock CL. If you want a fast 5at then supercharge it or develope a custom turbo. If you can't afford it or can't justify the cost (meaning you can't afford it) then you don't need to worry about its value. But yes it is what it is a roots type blower, most supercharger kit run around 3500 and up and this just happens to be the only for for our cars.

In addition, for those wondering what it is like. It is not overwhelming (well, not until you start taking it even further). It feels like someone replaced your engine with a bigger one. There are torque increases all over the place making it a joy to drive every day.

You can order a kit from Comptech to adapt one application to the other. I believe it costs around $100. Not listed on their site, you'd have to call. I spoke to a member who as done this. 6-speed adapted for the Auto
