What kind of attitude is that? BMW's intentions are pure and Acura's aren't?

:whocares:

Automobiles are conglomerations of mechanical parts controlled by computer hardware prone to design bugs and excessive or unexpected wear. They are put together on assembly lines by both humans and machine. What do you expect?

A 100% prefectly made car is an oxymoron.

To be reasonable, I don't think we should expect a 100% perfect car. Rather, we should expect good service when there is a problem, especially when it's associated with manufacture. The TSB gives the dealers instructions on how to fix the more common problems. Hence, Acura is attempting to resolve problems.

Obviously, people's experience with Acura service is mixed and seems to be dealer dependent so YMMV.

These are 29 TSB's that have nothing to do with quality or problems except to provide information to dealers concerning changes or something they should be aware of.

take for example
620400 AUG 00 IC Conversion - Km/h to Mph or Mph to Km/h

it seems like you are more concerned with the quantity rather than the substance of the TSB. Oh well, I guess Acura cars suck because the techs need to convert MPH to km/h.

Not to start a war or anything, but it's pretty much accepted among those in the auto industry that Honda/Acura have a reputation for "hiding" problems.

I believe they're trying to protect their reputation of high quality, at the cost of alienating faithful/loyal customers.

I can't tell you how many times I've read people complaining (on other auto forums) about how Honda/Acura won't put out a TSB or issue a recall for certain problems..... And then the dealers won't admit that it's a widespread problem at all.....

I dunno, I think Honda is making a big mistake with their approach.

But how much better are other auto companies in dealing with these types of situations? I mean, if a company can conceal a problem it will obviously choose to do so and Honda obviously tried to hide the tranny issue for a very long time and didn't admit to it existing until it became so obvious that they really had no other choice. How did BMW handle the M3's blowing engines? Where they any better? Did they step up to the plate before it was "necessary" or did they also wait until it was an obvious issue?

Who cares how many TSB's there are. Everyone knows that, when a company redesigns a car there are alot of bugs to fix. Also as stated before, most of the TSB are for informational purposes. So dont worry how many if none of them effect you at all. Who cares if Honda/Acura wont say whats wrong with there Autos. Its there choice and we can not change what there approach on business is. Apparently its not bad because they keep selling cars. JMO

even if Acura goes public with the cause of the tranny problem, would most non-engineering people understand it?

It's all hogwash...they admit there is a problem, and they say if you have it, they will fix it.

How long did it take for toyota to admit there is a sludge problem in their 3.0L v6? How long did it take bmw to admit there is a problem with M3 engines? How long did it take for MB to admit that their initial quality has slid to hell?

ALL companies try to play down issues...is it called "hiding them" like mitsu did? If Honda was hiding this, why are there so many TSBs? Does BMW issue recalls to boost its image? Did toyota admit that it is a quality issue with the sludge problem? They STILL insist it's abuse and lack of maintenance, even after offering an extended warranty on the engine.

Find me a company that does not try to "downplay" issues...Honda is no different than any of them out there.
