3rd brake light gone....

I decided to follow CleanCL's work & eliminate my 3rd brake light.
I tinted the entire rear window & cut out the rear deck around the brake light. Removed it & cutout the same size speaker cloth as a cover. Held on with super strength velco.

Again thanks to cleancl for the idea & michiamo for the tint shop recommendation.

Cost...$12 for 1 yard of fabric.

that is a great idea than just replacing the whole deck.

i was thinking of taking my 3rd light out and painting it black since its tan. looks out of place, would that work?

Yeah that could. The brake light bolts to the sheet metal & into the trunk. 2 small 8mm nuts accessed from under hold it on. A better idea would be to buy the black brake light housing from the parts sites.

nice... clean job. always nice to work w/ black interiors. unfortunately i have parchment so i had to replace the whole deck to get a matching piece. yours looks great though. i love the clean deck look from the inside when i'm looking in the rear view mirror too.

Great idea! The 3rd brake light does not contribute in any way towards safety.

fuzzy-->that looks so much cleaner...pat on the back for a practical mod!!

question, if you didnt have the spoiler w/ brake lights in it, would this be considered illegal ?

Likely yes. If I didn't have the spoiler I'd still tint behind the brake light.
There are 2 big brake lights in the taillights anyway. If the idiot behind you can't see your stopping a 3rd brake light isn't going to make a difference.
