3200 mile drive!

In three weeks (9/11 - 9/21) I will drive my CLS from Portland, OR to NAS Pensacola, FL. Route will take me through Yellowstone, Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, down hwy 45 to Mobile then over on 10. Will also back track to New Orleans so the gf may fly home.

For anyone who lives in these areas or driven along this route, are there other highways I should take that offer a more scenic route or go by some war memorials? Maps offer names of memorials, but not testaments. Time is not too much of a concern, more geared for the fun of driving the CLS cross country and seeing America before I begin my Naval commitment to her longevity.

Any advice on dealerships in the Mobile / Pensacola area?

What BBQ joints should I hit up when in Kansas City and St. Louis?

I should have a day or two to get on email before school, so I will report back re: the CLS performance during this drive.

If you're starting out I84-I15-I84-I80 your best price gas stops are Caldwell, Idaho, and then Evanston, Colorado (You should be able to reach them on one tank each). Then if you're going I25 to I70, you would gas at Denver and next one or two exits east of Salina, Kansas (can't remember if it's 252 or 253), avoid Hays I got some bad gas there. good luck, I have never found any scenic places.. YMMV

Nope, no navi. I'm a real man.

Thanks for the gas tips. That's about the route that I'll take, but I'll probably head northeast @ Pendelton into Montana, then angle across Wyoming.

I'm from New Orleans living in Northern California for the past 14 years. There are two routes....the Northern route and the Southern route. The Northern route goes from SF to Tahoe to Nevada to Utah to Colorado, then to George W. Bush territory to Florida via I-10 Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, then HORRIDA swampy, sticky NASTY H U M I D I T Y. You know when you arrived.....or The Southern route, SF to La La Land over to I-10 across Arizona, New Mexico, TEXASS, Louisiana etc.......Northern route will be cooler, gorgeous mountain terrain, WATCH the mormans.............Buy lots of coffee, soda's, booze before going to Utah....then the spectacular Rocky Mountains ! Good luck ! :P
