3.2 Cl Vs. 5.9 Jeep

Ok I was driving my cousin's 3.2 CL as I just bought mine and it is waiting in Arizona for me when I get down there this year for college. Anyhow I pull up along a 5.9L Jeep. WE used to have one of these so I knew they were fast but I didn't think they could take the 3.2 CL. We'll he basically had me by 3 cars to 70 MPH. Now did this have any mods or was it stock and how are these things after 70 because when we had one I didn't have my license and my mom really didn't go over 80 in it. Thanks, Anthony

I had a 98 5.9 JGC and I can definitely say that it was faster than my CL-S... A big difference is the full time All Wheel Drive... 0-60 was anywhere between 6.3 and 6.9... That thing was a beast... I traded it in for a 99 Camaro SS because I am a car person...

Yeah that thing was a beast. Jeep's are amazing. By far the best SUV's IMO. Take the new model, they look awesome, inside is really nice, great off road, and on road they are beast they run 7.2 to 60. That is insane. Also if you have the V8 with the Quadra Drive you will experience a nice humming noise that sounds like a tone down boxster. What a great vehicle. I just wish they made a big engine for the new ones like put the 5.9 or even the 5.2 they used in 98 with the new body design. That would def be the thing to get then.

Yeah, that would be awesome... I still like the 98 5.9 limited. I bought it new for 47K and put about 18K miles on it. I saw one online about a month ago with 24,000 miles on the odometer for 18.5K What a steal!!! If I was to get another sport ute, I might just pick one of those up for a bargain... The new body style is sweet but I still like the older ones.

Yeah, if you wanna tangle with a 5.9 GC from a light you better have some serious TQ. Even high HP cars get the hell whipped out of em on a stoplight race with a GC 5.9.

They have gobs of TQ, tons of traction, what more do ya need for a stoplight race? They are BEATS outta the hole, trust me.

I dunno... I think it had mods. I could very easily take a 5.9RT in my CL-S when I was stock. Sure, they have tons of torque... but tons of traction?? Hardly. Those things can sit and spin forever unless launched perfectly.

AMEN to the traction trouble on R/Ts. My Nitto 450 Extreme's seem to hep a bit, but I still HAVE to feath rit off the line....

BUT, imagine if the R/T had AWD.... Well, the Jeep GC 5.9 DOES have AWD. In other words, traction is not an issue. They may chirp the tires, but nothin more unless they're nicely modded. The can just slam the pedal and put down 350lb ft of TQ instantly. The TQ comes on at a low RPM too, so it's a stoplight beast.

My first race in my CL-S was vs a co-worker's 99 Jeep GC 5.9. Wide Open, 4-lane hwy w/ stoplights. I have 4 adults and a full trunk of golf clubs (but he's fairly loaded too - 4 guys and gear).
First launch from stoplight he clearly gets a significant jump on me, in fact it shocks me so much that I hit the rev-limiter in 2nd and never really got my act together. Got almost even @ 100 before we slowed. I make my excuses, and get a 2nd chance at another stoplight.
This time, VSA goes off, and I pay closer attention. The 5.9 still gets a jump - but getting a little wheel-spin on the CL helps a lot, and as I hit VTEC in 2nd, it's over - a clear kill over a well driven 5.9. I do run into that annoying flat spot in 4th gear that makes 110+ seem really slow - but vs a Jeef GC that's not a liability as they are done around 90. Anyway, it was fun and taught me not to underestimate the competition. I'd guess the Jeep would take a std. CL, and alot of other fast cars, at least in normal short stop-light duty.
