3.0 vs new civic si

already killed a new civic non si so i was on my way to work today when this red si cuts me off (temp tags). he is now in front of me so i floor it. there is like a finger gap between my cl and his back bumper.after a bit of weaving in and out of lanes due to traffic (2 lane road) we caught daylight. i got in the other lane an could not reel him in!! he stretched alittle (not even a car) but from 80-120 he couldn't stretch and i couldn't hawk him down(the whole time he has hazards goin).i wanna go with an s/i from the dig. it would be a good one but he will prob get to hit hazards again hit.

damn and your engine is still stock? I guess you could have pulled on him with bolt on's. Kinda funny that the new SI is only as fast as the 3.0. Did you take 3rd up to 120 or let it shift into fourth on it's own at 100?

i was with my friend in his 98 mustang gt 5mt with exahust and he only beat the SI by a car length, SI's are fast cars ive driven them at work before. he must not have been a good driver, i really cant see a 3.0 keeping up with one. but nice kill anyways, a win is a win.

I read in another post they do high 14's stock. The J30a1 in your CL (I have an Accord with the same engine) will barely hang rolling and get killed from the dig.

The Civic SI offers very nearly RSX-S performance. A 3.0CL will get smoked by a Civic SI with a good driver, and a stock 5AT CL-S will not even win easily. The SI is a great little car.

Isn't a stock CL-S 5AT good for a low 15? I like the CL-S from a roll for sure.

if you have flat tires. they should do 14.8/9 which is just enough to say it doesn't do 15s. throw an intake and headers and you're surely doing mid to high 14s. the 5spd A/T that is.

my honda dealership has a few Si's in stock if you want to come down to jersey. it would be worth it instead of waiting 6 months.

I believe I said "stock 5AT CL-S" in my post regarding it not winning easily. I never said CL-S 6MT, as you have. Those should win against a Civic Si. As for power differences between the SI and RSX-S, it is 4 peak hp. I don't consider that a huge difference, do you? With less than 30lbs difference between the two, I'd consider them cars of equal potential. Therefore if an RSX-S can hang with your 6MT CL-S through 3rd gear, it should easily smoke any stock 1G CL.

And that was what this thread was about.

The SI is WAY over hyped. While it does have some pretty good power and handling for a 4 cylender, until it's modded out and tuned it's still just a civic with 160 whp.

for reference: stock 2003 TL-P vs tuned 06 si at the bottom ofhte page: http://www.urbanracer.com/articles/a...asp?a=1839&z=3

Your article says 188 whp with a green engine. Where'd you get 160whp? And the "3.0" TL didn't race it. They were noting how on the dyno the Si wasn't putting out as much power, 210whp, as the TL. Isn't that a TL-S dyno? I don't think a TL-P puts out 210whp.

Here's a claim of a 14.5 by a stock Si

I never said they raced. was saying there was a graph of their power overlayed to compare .

Isn't the "green" engine a demo engine? As I recall they did a dyno run on a pre-release Si and it made about the same, but it was specially tuned with a super flat AFR.

that's pretty damn good if that is exactly the same car as you get if you buy it from a lot.

The old SIs are 160 hp...the new SI's are rated at 197 HP. I believe he is referring to the previous generation SIs.

Well I figured, a tuned engine with cold watter splashed on the intake manifold making 188 whp, would probably make around 160whp untuned under normal driving conditions.

until I see the dyno of the new Si that is done by someone that just bought it off the lot, and not some car magazine given the car for "demo" purposes, I won't believe the dyno.
