2nd Car Options - your thoughts
I need to pick-up a 2nd car. The wilfe has a long commute and will be driving the CL-S. I just switched jobs and will now be catching the train. I don't want to leave a new car sitting there getting door dings everyday, so I'm going used. I've narrowed it down to two choices, both with about 34k miles:
1) '99 Integra LS - was fun to drive and in great shape.
2) '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport - the only reason for this one is that I have a new house and an SUV would be great for all the trips to Home Depot. My wife likes the fact that it is a 4 door, for those occasions when we're out with friends.
I know the Integra will be reliable and fun to drive. On the other hand, the Jeep will be practical and could come in handy in the winter. Thoughts?

I just bought a 4 door Honda Civic for my second car!!! It has lots of room and get AWESOME gas milage!!!!!!! It is a 94 and it had all kinds of door dings on it already!!! It is white so I don't have to wash it as much. It is a beater car that I use to commute back and forth to work!!! It isn't that fun to drive, no vtec, but when I get into my CL-S on the weekends, it makes her that much more fun to drive!!!!!!!!!

Get the Jeep. It will do wonders in the NJ snow too. I have a 94 Explorer as my 2nd car. The teg is really small too. I have a friend up there with a 99. He's rather large, & he hates it.

He's Right CRVs are nice little beaters
My wife had one till I bought her a V70 2.4T. She loved it to death, plus with the stick its kinda fun. And of course no:
ssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhh
sucking noises.
Sides, Jackson Racing sells a stupid charger for the CRV if you get board.

If you don't have to do a whole lot of commuting but need something that'll be practical for winters and large loads then I'd say Jeep as well. That '99 will last you a long time if you take care of it, not to mention that the 4.0L I6 is great (nice and torquey). Throw a better exhaust on there and you can get some great sounds out of it.
I had a '92 Cherokee Laredo and that thing was my best friend until I couldn't take the 100 miles a day commuting anymore. It's a beast in the snow as well. You'll never get stuck with the 4WD.
I also enjoyed the fact that it's extremely easy to work on - changing oil, diff. fluid, transmission fluid, plug replacement, etc. is all very easy because you have a lot of room underneath to move around.
Unforunately, using it to commute as much as I was and not in a utility way made it impractical for me. The gas bill was a bit much, which is why I say get it if you will not be doing any hardcore miles each day.
EDIT: I forgot, make sure it's got 4WD and not just RWD. The 4WD models use a part-time 4WD system so that you can select between RWD and 4WD depending on surface conditions. The selector lever is to the left of the gear shifter (at least it was in my 92). My opinion on the RWD-only models is that you may as well not bother, because it's like ordering a hamburger without the meat patty.
EDIT #2: Sorry... I just got to thinking about it, and I'm not sure if the 4WD model in '99 was full time 4WD or part-time. My '92 was part-time like I mentioned above, but I can't remember how long that continued.

Definitely get the integra. I used to have a 2000 GSR 4-door and I used to love that thing. Though it wasnt as quick as my TL-S, it sure was alot more fun to drive and toss into corners than the TL-S. Even an LS should be a nice car for an every day commute....and you retain the Acura style

Go for a Suped-UP Miata or a S2000 or Audi TT.
Well, you can dream can't you? Gotta love a small car, convertible, with enough HP and cornering and a manual transmission of course.
Now that's one hell of a "second car"!
Oh, in your case, do the Integra. Fun to Drive always wins over practical in our case, doesn't it?
Good luck with your choice.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ended up getting the Jeep Cherokee Sport 4X4. I actually was able to pick-up a 2000 model for what I'd thought I'd pay for a 1999. This dealer near me had a bunch of lease returns on the lot and was ready to deal. We actually test drove 4 different models before we picked one.
The one we bought is red with about 44k miles. It's in great condition. It was definitely never taken off road. Some of the other ones on the lot looked like they had been through the woods and over the hills a few times. Edmunds listed a retail price of about $14,700. However, we picked it up for only $12,800.
I am thinking about buying an extended warranty just in case something goes wrong as many of you pointed out. The dealer tried to sale me one for $900, but I figure I'm better off shopping for one online.
Once again, thanks for all the input!!!!!!!!!! I hope I can get 187k on my Jeep like Type S did!!!!!
