2K2 Maxima

Would a race between a 2K2 Max 6-Speed and a 01-02 CL-S (NOT 6-SPEED) even be a contest. I would think it depends on the driver of the 6-speed. Shoot em out. Give me the opinions.

2k2 Auto or Stick will take a stock CLS. If the CLS has CAI/Headers then it would be a race.

Now, we have the 6-speed we have to see...

2K2

So a 2K2 Max Auto would take a CL-S hands down also. I find that hard to believe.

Yeah I don't know if I can swallow that. That an auto 2K2 would just blow the doors of the CL-S

you are pretty much saying that the difference in speed between an auto and 6sp is like having headers/cai..... wow!!! 6sp gives you nearly 35 extra hp huh?? thats impressive

Stop talking out of your ass. A 6spd Max will take an Auto CLS, whereas auto vs. auto would be a close match.

Maxima is some 300lb lighter than a CLS and has more torque at lower rpm. So, it should win a drag race.

Re: 2K2

The Maxima has alot going for it. It's lighter by at least 200 lb than the CL-S. It has more TQ as well.

Overall it should take CL-S auto vs a 2k2 auto. Auto 2k2 Maximas have ran 14.6-14.8 stock, the best a TYPE-S has gotten was 14.8 to what I have seen. It would be a very very close race, but I have to say the Maxima.

I will run one eventually, to see...dunno when yet.

You are saying the Maxima have more torque at lower revs?? If so, this really can't be said. The peak torque of the Maxima comes in at like 4400 whereas the CL-S comes in at 3500 (at least on paper for both). So the question is, what is the Maxima torque at 3500 revs??

If it is about 225 - 230 lb/ft (which is probably the case) at this point then I would have to say that the engines are pretty well matched where the CL-S torque comes in sooner, has less of a peak but lasts longer. But the Maxima hits later but has a bit more peak torque but drops off sooner.

But the auto Maxima has a 275 lb weight advantage... But the automatic also has only four speeds to work with. This could very well offset the weight difference, gearing...

The manual versus auto issue can be disputed by bench racing, but all too often with an individual botch a launch in a manual negating any potential gains they may have had. Also, I am surprised, even with the publications, at the trap speeds of the Maxima and Altima 3.5L. They seem too low for their potential and may be geared such that it hurts their trap speed.

Btw, if you can find one stock CLS driver that can get 14.8 stock it doesn't really matter because the rest of us around right around 15.0-15.1 stock so we'd lose if we race a 2k2 Maxima which seems to get an AVERAGE of 14.8 stock.

HOW about a CL-S with headers/AEM Intake, and tires vs a stock 6 speed 02 Max?

What would win?

We have both cars in my houshold. 2002 auto maxima SE (mom's car) and my car 2001 cls. My car has intake and headers and feels slighlty faster than the maxima. If my car was stock, I honestly don't think you would notice a difference. I think it all comes down to driver skill since these cars are very evenly matched.

A coworker of mine just got a 2k2 SE 6 Speed... It feels just as fast or faster than my CL-S.

I'm trying to get him to bring it down to Englishtown, but it's still in the break-in period...

I have driven all four cars and even had a 6spd Maxima on order before I made the best decision of my life and got the 6spd Acura. Hands downs the Maxima 6spd will beat an auto CL-S. The only good comparison would be a 6spd Max vs. 6spd Acura and that would all come done to the better driver and who gets the best launch. The auto Max and the auto CL-S should be a good match up to because I know the auto Max does 0-60 in 6.7 amd I think the auto CL-S is about the same. The only sure way to know is to race one.

My 2K2 6-speed SE is definately faster than my 3.2 CL-S with headers/CAI.

There's more tq off the line in my Max, but i'm definately prone to bad launches. It's not as peaky as the CL-S and seems a little bit flat in the high-end, but i THINK the low-end makes up for it.

Against the new 6-speed 03 CL-S, it'd be a driver's race for sure.

I'll be hookin' up with Astroboy in the summer, we can race and put this issue to rest, or I'll meet any CL-S owner in TO as I go there quite often.

Either way, what a waste of gas. Who buys these cars just to race them in a straight line?

Driver driver driver! I drove both a cls 6spd and max 6spd and they felt the same to me. It all depends on the driver. REV REV REV and launch. 6spd max will take a cls hands down. 6spd cls will take a auto max hands down. Auto vs Auto will be driver determined. The times are so close that if someone gets the jump or lead first, the other is the loser. TRUST ME!

Let's try again:

Btw, if you can find one stock CLS driver that can get 14.8 stock it doesn't really matter because the rest of us are right around 15.0-15.1 stock so we'd lose if we race a 2k2 Maxima which seems to get an AVERAGE of 14.8 stock. One guy who can pull a 14.8 doesn't matter because the other 99% of us can't. Meanwhile a good percentage of the Maximas can pull at least 14.8 stock. In other words the law of percentages dictates that most of us would lose to a 2k2 Maxima, so what one member was able to squeeze out of his car doesn't mean anything compared to the average.

Our average stock is 15.0-15.1. Their average stock is supposedly 14.7-14.8.

Is the post clearer now?

Any CL-S memebers in Toronto wanna settle it? Let me know, it will be fun...then all of the "i think this" crap will stop.

We can try different situations, from a stop and from a roll at different speeds.

Hurry up because I won't be bone stock forever.

I apologize maxima owner.

I apologize for having a job, and not being able to drive to canada for the sole purpose of proving who's car is faster.

I know we are all car enthusiast here, If the CL-S beat the Maxima so be it, or if the Maxima beat the CL-S be it. You dont have to stresst out over this kinda topic, just take a minute to relax and think; there's always be fast car either your own a CL-S or the Maxima..
Just enjoy what you got...
