was the device that was shot on to the cars to immobilize them real?

looked like it could be, but maybe it was just movie fantasy

I know I have seen the ones cops launch from under their car but don't know about on that gun shit.

 

i haven't seen the movie but for years the police have been working on tech to do this -- as of at least two years ago it worked but it's not in production because of safety issues (like sudden loss of pwr steering and braking)- but from my understanding the device puts out a very high wattage signal of some sort that basically shut's down the electrical in your car --- it does work!!! the technology isn't that complicated but like i said the saftey issues need to be worked out

 

There is a gun type device that looks like a radar detector. A chip that hasnt became wide-spread yet is added to the cars from the manufacter...The police can shot this device towards the car with a certain frequency killing the electrical system.

I havent about this for quite some time now. Maybe they have progressed to the shooting device thing

It's called an EMP. An electro magnetic pulse. It kills all the electronics in the car. I wonder if it work work on a 69 camero? Not much is being controlled by electronics

 

It was in the Matrix too, If you remember. When they hit the button and shut down the things.(can't remember their names)

A compact transportable electromagnetic pulse (EMP) generating system for generating and transmitting EMPs at a target vehicle to disrupt electronics controlling operation of the target vehicle. The system comprises a power conditioning unit for applying a high voltage signal to a pulse generator after safety and security interlocks have been satisfied and a user actuated command received by the conditioning unit from a system control unit. The system control unit also generates a fire control trigger pulse for actuating the pulse generator and a oscillator trigger unit. After a predetermined time delay the trigger unit actuates an oscillator primed by the output of the pulse generator to transmit a series of pulses to a radiating system via an impedance matching transmission line. The radiating system radiates the EMPs having characteristics which will disable electronics in a target vehicle.

The ideas behind this are nothing new by any means. Go back and look at Star Wars. They have ion cannons that do the same thing, and im sure if you research other older sci fi youll find they all have some idea or version of electronic disabling.
