290HP?

why do all the people with cl-s/tl-s with headers keep referring to it as a 290hp car? acura lists it as 260hp... not to the wheels but at the crank... comptech adds a dynoed 30+hp to the WHEELS, when you consider the ~20% loss for the headers, you are driving a 300+ HP car at the crank. and that is a NICE number!

just wanted to get that off my chest... thanks :-D

Before I'm roasted, toasted, and flamed to death here...

I'm not sure about the scaling issue. Some of the losses are fixed (alternator, air, steering pump, oil pump, water pump). So, the net friction is not going to change with an increase in power.

The Dynojet also measures power by spinning up a heavy drum, so if someone has really light wheels, and they don't correct for them, how does one really know what the exact flywheel HP is.

BTW -- the "net" gain from the headers (I'm about to have 'em installed is about 24 HP. 232(headers)@6600 - 208(original)@6200 = 24 HP. I'm as guilty as the rest with the calcs, but staying on the low side is good for staying Out Of Trouble.

$0.02...

Mine is stock so it's only about 200 to the rear wheels.

Comptech's dyno for the headers has stock with max hp of 208 (6000-6200 rpm) and with headers the max hp is 232 hp (6400 rpm).. a difference of 24 hp at the wheels.. with the 20% loss.. if means an increase of 30hp at the crank

Whoops did not see the post above.. sorry for he double post, but yes it is better to err on the ocnservative side. =)

but at 6600rpm stock posts 199, while with headers the output is 231, which account for a 32hp gain at the wheels

But that does not equate to a 40 hp gain over max stock hp.. at 199 hp the crank hp is ~250hp and 231 hp the crank hp is ~289hp.. so top hp with headers is 290hp a gain of 30 over max stock hp.

Unless of course you're driving in reverse But then again if you're driving in reverse at 290hp then you got other problems to deal with

How can you tell, besides the badging and perforated leather, if the car is a Type S. I just want to make sure some dealer doesn't pass a CL off as a Type S.

What can I look for in the engine or elsewhere?

the things you can look for are: type S shift knob, perforated leather, 17 in. wheels, metallic gauges, VSA (instead of TCS), and bowling ball trim (black wood) if it's the ebony interior. i think that's it for the things that you can look for... oh yeah the badge, which will prolly be stolen in a few weeks.

mods (in order):
35% neutral smoke tint... cleared out headlights replaced with polarg m-14's and piaa 19169's... piaa 19169's in roadlamps, doorlights, maplights, trunk light, license plate light... mini-max hyperwhite domelight... comptech headers, springs, swaybars, and drop-in filter... infinity basslink subwoofer

I would get the headers if it was a 15 hp increase throughout the band. When pushing the car it flys through the 6000-7000 rpm range very quickly. Even running on the highway you don't have to go much past 4500 rpm for this car to fly from 60 to 90 to pass someone.
I am really looking forward for the great dyno test that should be happening soon!

You can look at the engine just left of center on the rear of the engine is the actuator motor for the dual stage induction. Compare to the non-S and it will be obvious.
