235/45 17s on stock rims?
Just wondering if anyone has tried this. I'm thinking of adding 235/45ZR or VR 17s to the stock five spoke 2001 CL Type S rims. My two concerns are 1) will the tire fit on the rim (17 x 7?) and, 2) how much tire rub is experienced with this set up.
I'd love to add 245s, but I'm almost positive that you'd need to go up to a 7.5" or more maybe even a 8" rim to fit these.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

I have 2 (yes 2!) CL Type-S's ....1 with 245/35/17's , one stock...depending on the feel you are going for, more luxury, smoother - stick to the stock size. If you dont mind sacraficing a little smoothness and more noise for performance and handeling...GO FOR IT!!!
Stock is on my mothers (yes...my mom drives a type-s0, and 245/35/17's on mine...either way, you still have a bad ass ride!

A comment...
The 235/45-17 -- yes, so far no problems on the stock 17x7 original wheels. The only issue was with Toyo T1S with laser calipers (it's a tight fit and there might be some scratching). I don't know if it would be a problem with the 2003 wheels.
(I had my 235/45-17 Toyo T1s on stock rims and had zero problems)
RE: There was one member that tried 245/45-17 Dunlop SP 8000s on his stock rims, and he had a problem with "balance"/”fitting”. Not all tires are of the same width (different section width and tread width) and said he removed them and the problem went away. (All tires are a little bit different -- so, just so you know you could find one set of 245's that are perfect, and another that might be "funny"... don't know, just something to watch. You might want to make sure you get the actual make/brand that someone is using here.
BTW, if it weren’t for “fitment” issues, the car would probably enjoy 255/40-17 rubber on 8.5” wheels…
