Sorry this is not a racing story just a future competition/ camparo.
Just did a litte Car and Driver reading and wow the new Accord's have a 3.5L 268hp engine. I wonder how this compares with our 3.2L?
Also.... the new Accords have more hp than the new base TL's (3.2L 258hp)....this doesn't make sense to me. Anybody care to clarify this for me?
Is Acura planning on making all there TL's 286hp like the current TL-S's?

(fingers crossed) maybe they will bring back the CL. We need a new CL-S with 330+hp SH-AWD Coupe of some kind. Infiniti G37 coupe needs a a** kicking.

 

If H/A made a DOHC, I-VTEC 3.5 with multiple cam profiles on the intake AND exhaust, (instead of SOHC with just intake cam profile like now) the engine would make 330HP! Someone tell me why it hasn't yet been done! WHY?

Actually I will tell you why, they were waiting for competition. They only put the detuned 3.5 on the new Accord because of the engine offerings from Camry, Maxima, IS350. They just had to wait and release it so it wouldn't cannabalize TL sales. That is why a new TL is coming out right after the Accord. I would guess the new base TL will be a 3.5 detuned slightly less, maybe even stick with the current 286hp type S setup. This is the same thing they did last gen with the 260hp type S and then regular 3rd gen TL at 270.

 

I'm just confused why the 08 Accord has more horsepower than the 08 base TL. Why didn't they just bring out a 275hp 3.5L detuned Type S motor for the 08 base TL. That way its higher than the Accord but still less than the TL-S. Just seems very odd to me...that a Honda has more hp than its Acura counter part.
When is TL's Model change.. is it 09?

 

That's just how H/A does things I guess...They are coming out with their new star Accord a year after the direct competition new Camry came out. TL change is MY 2009, which means with the new Accord out, base TL sales might go down the toilet for MY 2008.

EDIT: SO basically they may be willing to cannabalize base TL sales for one year? Unless tey are upgrading for MY 2008 which I don't think is the case.

 

ive heard rumors of the 09 TL have 3.5L V6 at 286 (basically the 07/08 Type S) and the 09 TL Type S having the 3.7 the MDX has in it with somehwere around 330HP and SH-AWD...along with the MDX and RL getting bumped to small V8s...just rumors tho

 

Our 3.2's are still good don't worry yourself too much about it, too bad the car weighs over 3500lbs now, thats more than the CLS.

 

I think the new accord is ugly ewwww it looks exactly like a Lexus IS plus are engine are not out of date the m3 is also 3.2 and has potential plus if we are supercharge we would eat them up!!!

id say cause the accord will out sell the TL since its cheaper and more appealing. i mean its one of the best selling sedans ever, next to the camry, bluh. im sure h/a has more secrets up their sleeve than they are leading on to. hell look how surprising it was that they actually had the sense to stop the nsx..

God,ur an idiot.ur compairing ur old CL to the new 2008 accord.For godsake have some thought.Ur car is 7 years old.My ist gen g35 has even less horses than this accord.But,i am not complaining.Everytime ,theres a new gen car,expect the unexpected.The 4th gen TL which will be base on the new 08 accord is expected to have more power in terms HP/Torque.

Anyways like more mature people have commented yea the new Accords have more hp but they also weight more. So w/ that point they are still comparible (no matter how old our car is)
Also I wasn't complaining at all. I'm glad H/A is bumping there hp #'s. They have to to keep in competition with stupid N/I (I hate Nissian's if you can tell..but thats just my opinion) and the rest of the auto world. Without competition know one sees what they are capable of. Yes I was a little confused on how the 08 accord had more hp than 08 TL and wanted to get some info. and/or mature feedback...but you've proven that you can't get it without someone being an ass and immature.

 

They weigh more but they have more HP and TQ than the CLS which means it will b shitting on all the stock TLS/CLS's out there...Acura will b back with a gr8 lineup for 09 and i will jump on it asap

 

Don't worry, it happen before. Back in 2003 the Accord had more horsepower than of Acura sedans models, with the exception of the TL/CL Type-S.

240hp - 2003 Accord V6
200hp - 2003 Acura RSX Type S
225hp - 2003 Acura CL Base
225hp - 2003 Acura TL Base
225hp - 2003 Acura RL Base

Next year Acura will deliver.

There's no other car I love the looks of more than my 03' CL-S...clean and refined... oh sorry...right...uh...bring back the CL!

Bare in mind, the TL/CL is based on the Accord. Hence, the 2003 Accord leapfrogged the 2003 TL-P/CL-P. Likewise for the 2008 Accord.

That said, I do not foresee the new Accord cannibalizing 08 TL sales much. Despite the advances evident with the 8G Accord, the TL is still decidedly upscale by comparison.

an ugly but superpowerful accord!! i cant wait to see what Acura has up its sleeve. at least we know the next TL and hopefully upcoming CL(fingers crossed) will have over 270 hp in its base engine. but what i dread is the inevitable weight gain our future gens of the TL/CL may see. i mean...the accord is now in the full-size segment and weights 3500+ pounds. also, i wouldnt worry much about accord stealing sales, it will never offer the sexy looks only acura can offer.

I make more than my parents ..have my own house and support my wife...and I'm able to drive a new 5 series bmw if I wanted but I don't because I know a quality/practicle car for the money. I started this thread to again have some intellegent coversation with some intellegent people which obviously your not. I'm sorry I don't have time to read ever stupid car magazine so I come on here and ask the experts.
I am constantly amazed by the imprudent people there are in the world....and how thoughless people act when having a simple conversation.
