2004 Maxima???
Hey guys, i was looking at the 350Z but i really do like the fact that it is only a 2 seater! I think the new Maxima kinda looks like a 4 door version of the 350! Kind of! Now with these kinds of numbers what do u guys think
Engine type V-6
Engine displacement 213 cu.in.
Engine horsepower 265-hp @ 5,800 rpm
Engine torque 255 lbs.-ft. @ 4,400 rpm
Valvetrain DOHC
MSRP Invoice*
Base List Price $28,900 $26,426
Destination Charge $540 $540
Total $29,440 $26,966
Is it worth considering or not? Thanks

Haven't driven one, but from the car mags they're complaining about similar problems to the Altima - *lots* of torque steer. Maybe it's exciting to some to grip the wheel with white knuckles when hitting the gas... but I know I've felt little if any torque steer in my CLS-6 - gotta love the HLSD!
Or, if you're into the Infiniti/Nissan, try the G35 sedan. They're going for a few K less than the coupes, and they even offer a 6MT if that's your thing.

I had a chance to checkout a 2K4 Maxima with the same trim level as my 2K2 Max. The 18" wheel package looks cooler my 17s and the seats definitely feel more comfortable than mine. However, the front and rear end NEED to be restyled (preferrably by a different styling team.)
Brianlin, where did you see that aftermarket grill for the new Max??
Aegean, I guarantee you'd have a torque steer problem if the J32A2 torque was rated at 255lb-ft vs 232lb-ft

I'm not knocking the Max in general, I think in many ways it's similar to our beloved CL-S/TL-S. I do think that the HLSD in the 6-speeds has gone a long ways towards ruducing the torque steer, though, even compared to a similar auto CL-S with the same engine specs.
I do stand corrected however, the manual tranny '04 Max does have the HLSD, same as us, and a feature rather unfortunately left out of the Accord and Altima as well as the slushbox Max and CL-S. I'm not a gearhead, but is there a reason that putting in a HLSD is easier in a MT car than an auto?
I don't remember off-hand if the review I saw tested the auto or the 6-spd Max, and like I said, I haven't driven an '04 yet. I'm just making sure that you take that into account when evaluating the cars.
As to the styling, I don't think it's too bad, but it's not great either, I'm going to have to let that styling try to grow on me.

The sloping back looks kinda like the Z, but the side profile of the back of the car reminded me more of the Passat, at least from pictures. The Z slopes downward much more like a 911.

How the hell is a FWD Altima based Maxima a RWD 350z 4-door sedan? Has anyone driven any? It now feels like a Buick with 18" wheels. I am very disappointed with the new Maxima. And so is every car magazine I have read.
ANd besides black it is one ugly car. Ugly in pics, ugly in person. Yuck.
I'd get a 2003 model (hell it's faster) than a 2004.

Ah, makes sense now. C&D must have had a 6-speed without the HLSD, at least I would hope. It was a pre-production model, and they didn't list which options that particular car came with. On the other hand, don't most manufacturers tend to give their nicer models to the car rags for testing, so they don't get trashed like that?
That review is on the C&D website if anyone's interested. We all know you can't always trust the mags, though, and I haven't driven the car myself yet, so I stick by my guns that I only mentioned the torque steer as something to look for when you test drive if you're interested in the Max.

As for the looks/style of the new Max:
Front grill --- gotta go
Rear end --- gotta go
Cornering lamps --- gotta go
Suzuki Gixxer instrument cluster --- gotta go
Flat shelf dashboard --- gotta go
Skyview-type sunroof --- WTH????
Aside from those areas, it's not too bad a car (I guess).
Peace

Torque does not always cause a torque steer. My 1998 Maxima SE had only 205 p/f torque and had a lot of torque steer. My 2002 Acura TL-S had 232 p/f torque and had much less torque steer. My 2002 540ia has 324 p/f torque and there is no torque steer. Good suspension geometry can completely eliminate the torque steer.

Nissan raked their cars more so they all look a bit Z-like.
It looks nice. I didn't like the promo pics but it looks good on the road. I haven't raced one yet but I get the feeling that the CL is taking a back seat if you have no mods as far as sport coupes and SPORT sedans. 260hp used to rock but it is becoming a norm.
Looks nice. I am not a Nissan hater!

The car looks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better in person. The only thing I don't like is the little notches in the rear. Where the tail lights run into the trunk.
Plus, the 4 pipe setup looks outta place. Its a V6 not some kinda V8 or a BMW.
I think that its a really good buy. The Max is classic, and this one will be in style for awhile.

I would say go for it, nice looking particularly in darker colors. Get it with 18" wheels. Last month Nissan sold more than 11,000 of it. For the same price, you could also consider Accord EX V6 with navi and TSX. All these three cars have their own strong and weak points, I recommend you to go test drive all of them before deciding.

I say if you like the Maxima go for it.
this is my 2 cents on the Maxima
I like it the new style.
it kind of reminds me of Euro styling(like Benz, or BMW)(I know it isn't as classy as a Benz or BMW) but as long as you don't get that Orange with Orange leather(that's HORRIBLE:thumbsdn: :shakehd: ) if you get a normal color exterior(like silver, red, blue, black or blue) and normal color leather(black or grey) it makes that car look nice.
since I won't be getting an CL-S(due to in June they're dropping them)
the Maxima now my 2nd favorite car(right behind the trusty V-6 Accord)

I love Maximas. OLD Maximas. This new one is way to big to be a Maxima. It is based of the Altima platform numbnuts. It felt ponderous when I drove it.
Every Maxima seems to drive bigger and bigger whereas before it used to drive like it was smaller.
Is it ANY WONDER the car has never won ANY comparisons since the 89-94 model? It's never won any awards. Those are facts bub.
It is not a bad car. But now the Maximas selling points are SPACE (room)and the VQ. The model I drove was 34k. That is Thirty-Four thousand dollars. They are smoking more CRACK than the Mayor of Washington for that price.
The TL-S, the PRESENT TL-S now owns it whereas it kinda was a toss-up with the 2003 model.
The Maxima was a poor man's BMW, now the fucking thing is priced like a BMW.
I'd take the BMW.

the 2004 is a nicer car than the 2003 even though some may not like the styling, not everybody wants conservative cookie cutter sheetmetal.
nissan msrp and what people pay for nissans are two different things, should have no problem getting a nicely equiped se for under 30k. people pay 35k for an es300, not like that car has a stunning design inside or out.

The TL-S owns NOTHING, punkass bitch. So, how about a nice glass of STFU, Lexus fool
2004 Max vs 2003 TL-S
Price 35k loaded Max > 32k loaded TL-S=Max loses
Looks subjective but TL-S may be boring but not ugly, Max is ugly
So TL-S>Max
Panache, Acura>Nissan
Interior TL-S>Maxima
Gizmos Maxima>TL-S
Speed Maxima=TL-S
Ride Quality Maxima<TL-S
Please come up with some more original one-liners noob.
The Maxima is not a bad car. Just the worst 35k car.
