2003 Type S and HID

I have a 2003 CL Type S 5spd auto and my question is...I've noticed recently that the HIDs that are standard on the car seem to be not as bright as my friend's sister's 2001 TL. I know the comparasion might be a little flawed and everything, but it's all I have to go on right now. Granted that the housing on her car is different from mine and everything, but it seems like her lights are brighter and if not more purple. When we take her car out, the signs on the road like the speed limit or warning signs light up a nice bright white. When I take my car, from a distance the signs are lit up but as I get closer, the HIDs no longer reflect off the signs unlike my friend's sister. So I am curious if anyone else with an 03 model had any similar experiences. I want to get an idea before I take it back to Acura to look at it. Thank you!

Mine seems to be the same, but with the new “smoked” housing you don’t get the high-beam “search lights” pointing upward into the sky any more.

Thanks Shawn S!! I was curious if you would ever upgrade your HIDs for a brighter and bluer look? My friend has a 91 750iL BMW and he just purchased some 9006 HIDs with the 6000k for around $579. Here is the website, tell me what you think.

Thanks!

I bought those for my wife's car, they're worth every penny. Now she won't drive anything without 6000K HIDs!

One thing to keep in mind too is that Acura changed their HIDs from the 2001 models. Do you remember early last year all of the news stories and news magazines all over the HID saying that the government was investigating them, blah blah blah. Well, to make them happy, most manufactures, including Acura, changed their HIDs slightly to reduce glare. that is why your HIDs appear less bright then your sisters ride.

As for upgrading the HID... several people on the TL-S forum did that as well, and they love it. Personally, I'm with Shawn... $600 for HIDs is too much when I already have HIDs. They do the job, so I'm happy....

The upgrade for the CL to 6000K HIDs are only $290. The reason for the $579 HID for my wife's millenia is because it didn't come with HIDs so I had to buy the conversion kit of 9006 which includes the ballast and bulb instead of just the bulb.

Thank you Nighthawk and Junior bean...your posts were informative. I had recalled something about the government thing about the HIDs being too bright and everything but didn't even consider it until you mentioned it. Thank you all once again!
