2003 Taillights on 2001

I know that in order to put 2003 tailights on a 2001, you need an adapter for one of the bulbs... My question is, is that an Acura part??? Or is this some custom adapter some 3rd party made? Can I get this from a dealer?

I saw a black 2003 this weekend and the tailight was very nice. I'm seriously thinking about replacing my silver 2001 tailight as well. Would Acura do it for me ? And how much would it cost me ?

Has anyone replaced their 01 tailights with 03s already? What's the difficulty level in doing it? Does it require using sealant or is it just screw on parts?

Also, what is the part number for the wire harness adapter I need to put 03 lights in an 01? I asked my Acura dealer about such an adapter and they said 03 tailights are designed for 03 and not 01, so they don't have such a part.

Can someone help me out?

I have the part number for you at you, I'll get that for you when I get home. Your dealership has lazy morons working for them if they say it wont work...or dont bother to look for it. Skill level involved in installing the '03 lights is very minimal. Pull the carpet back, screw out the old tails, and put in the new ones. No sealant needed, the harness IS needed though for the turn signal light.

The socket part # is this: 33503-S3M-A11 (You will need two).

You will also want to order new amber bulbs to keep things legal, of course there are other options on where to order bulbs, but from Acura the part number for the correct bulb is:

The bulb part # is this: 33303-SDDD4-671 (You will need two).

The dealership gave me a discount, so the final price for me was:
Two sockets @ $16.38 each and two bulbs @ $0.94

But on the invoice, it says the list price is: $20.48 and the bulb at $1.18.

Some people have paid as high as $25 for the sockets.....

Thanks for the info synth19. Just one last question... how much should I expect to pay for the tailights themselves?

Is there any instructions out there to swap the tailights ? I went to autocarparts.com and saw the kit for 379.

The swap is super easy.

All u got to do is unscrew the old lights, swap out the bulbs and sockets, and screw the new lights on. It's that simple.

Trust me if i could do it, anybody can.

I believe for $379 the kit comes with the harnesses. As for installation, if you know how to use a phillips screwdriver & how to change a tail light bulb you can do it. Trust me, it's that easy.

Just called my dealer. They are asking for 490 + tax. They wouldn't do a price match. I guess I'll buy it from autoparts.com. Are they reliable ?

Just called another dealership. They quoted me $219 for the lenses/housing/gasket. Then 2 sockets at $21/each and then 2 amber bulbs at $1.50 each. Comes out to $264. Does this sound like all I need ? Seems like a pretty good deal. Can someone please confirm the parts for me. Going to order it as soon as I get the confimation. Thanks,

If $264 is what they are telling you for all the items needed, definately get on top of it. I think that's the lowest price for 2003 tails i've seen yet!

I'm going to verify with the dealer again today and order them if that's in fact the price. I'll let you know. It does sound too good to be true though.

Yea, all the bulbs transfer over. You would need to get the amber bulbs for the turns tho. Or some aftermarket ones depending on what look you want.

Your hyper white reverse can stay tho. I got PIAA's for my reverse.

Jon,

I got PIAA 19225 bulbs in the reverse. And ya it makes a lot of difference. The light is a bright white light. Waaaaaayyyy better than the yellow stock ones IMO.

BTW, you can get the bulbs from www.optauto.com. I bought all my PIAA bulbs there, except for the reverse. Reverse bulbs were given to me by the person I bought the tails from (Thanks Lou) They're the same price as the others tho.

Thanks Scooter.

I was looking for those pix to post but couldnt find them.

BTW, have you found any aftermarket bulbs that would replace the stock vanity mirrors & glove box?
