2003 CL 6-Speed Availibility?

Hey everybody, LONG time no see.

This seems a bit odd, for it seems to be varying through everyone I have spoken to. What's the availibilty in your area? There's automatic CL's going for dirt cheap, but there's a two month wait on the 6-speed in Southern NH as we speak.

Any clue?

Im in NC and I just ordered mine two weeks ago. The dealer says it should be here in two to three weeks. I guess I can wait that long?

Almost Sold Out?

I just picked up my 2003 CL-S 6 Speed outside of Philadelphia. My VIN is, well, just short of 2700 (I don't want to publish my actual VIN). If only 2700 were made, they're all out there already.

This is an awesome machine. A real luxury sports coupe.

Joy!

Funny.... up in Canada, I went to my local Acura dealer for service (oil change, etc) and they had 3 6-speeds on the lot. Seems like no problem here for availability.

BTW, they were priced the same as the auto's.

The 2700 VIN’s are NOT consecutive for the 6-Speed’s.

How do I know this?
Mine was one of the earliest built and my VIN is 2701.

And I've got 698.

Maybe they're building them backwards, and assigning VIN's sideways, sort of.

Uh oh....He just gave away his VIN.
I guess you were TWO behind me on the line that build day.

I think somebody here has 2705.

Yeah, i've got 2706. Do you think the 6speeds are special enough to get their own set of numbers? Or are the 2003 autos mixed in as well? There's another digit that specifies the tranny type in the VIN.

1st digit. 1 = USA, J = Japan. Not sure about Canada. Probably either 1 or 2.

What would someone do with your VIN?

Also, how do I read the VIN to tell what number I have?

I think the auto's are mixed in. I have an '03 auto w/ number 2474. I dont see a problem giving the number, since its printed on the dash of the car for all to see.

I don't know. I just don't feel like publishing it.

Kind of like your login name - keeps you somewhat anonymous.

2700 this year for 6-speed models, other CL's are (obviously) being produced as automatic CL Type S's and base 3.2CL's. I bet if demand for the CL 6-speed model exceeds Acura's predictions, Acura would be more than happy to increase output of the 6-speed variants. Supposedly, Acura is looking to sell whatever CL's they can...a problem I largely attribute to the TL/TL Type S having the same offerings as the CL, but with four door practicality.

The Type S package in the CL for 2001 helped propel CL sales for owners who were looking for 260HP, but could only find it in two doors (I was one of those who bought the CL solely for the Type S package...otherwise I would have gladly purchased a TL). Now this 6-speed gives it a boost again, until perhaps the 2004 TL redesign when it's likely to be offered (2003 TL's are not-so-equipped).

Acura needs to offer something the CL doesn't have to keep sales alive.
