2002 Maxima SE vs new Infiniti M45

The wife and I were returning home (NJ) from upstate NY on the Thruway (I87), where I was travelling at my usual 80-85mph cruising speed. Of course at these speeds, you have keep a sharp eye out primarily for troopers and then other cars that seem to be going at/or faster than your own speed.

Somewhere around Saugerties NY, I look in my rearview mirror to see some car gaining behind me but not at an overwhelming pace. Initially it appeared to be a G35S/X but as it rolled up behind me, I could see that it was the new M.

On this two lane portion of the Thruway, there was a car in the right lane that I was passing as the M came up behind me so he initially could not pass. As I passed that slower car, I figure "what the heck!" and floor it; at which point, that M did likewise.

As the road was pretty clear, the M jumped to the right line as I accelerated ...95-100-105-110-115-120-125-130-135mph (speedo). At about 135mph, that M eased past me where he promptly showed me what the VK45DE in his M45 was all about.

Much respect to the M45.....and yet it's also another reason why I should have bought a 6MT.

I almost bought a 2002 Maxima SE 6spd....when I test drove it, I wasn't used to the clutch and I got stuck on a stop sign on a hill, and I did the biggest burnout (smoke was POURING out of the wheel well). The car is NICE. I was trying to get it in reverse (found out later that I had to pull up something on the stick shift) and I put it in 6th instead...I actually got it rolling in 6th. Hawt. Now if it were rwd...

I thought the M45 would have handed you your ass faster with its 335hp and rwd, those things are high 13 to low 14 sec cars.

Anyways, gj keeping up well into the triple digits, thats very impressive.

Thank you. When I saw that it was an M45 and not the M35, I definitely felt satisfied with my Maxima's performance (although a loss is a loss )
