20% Vs. 35%

Im planning on getting tint put on soon, I just cant decide what percentage to go with. The shop im looking at, Hostile Customs will do either 35 or 20. I like the look of the 20% but im afraid of the attention id get from the cops. The visibility im not too worried about, however i've never driven a car at night with 20% tint. . .

If you have pics of the CL with either please post, if possible, before/after. Post your thoughts and opinions. Thanks.

35 to 20 isn't an amount you'll notice much. It's a little more dark, but still very see able.
Now if you were going 15% or lower you'd really see a difference.

hmmm i dont know... I have 20% and its pretty dark, i would imagine its easy to assume that its illegal while driving... whether youll get pulled over, depends on the cop of course

35% not so much... it might be questionable at best...

Either way this is 20% on my car

Ill see if i can get some pics of my buds 350z --- 35% all around

I had 20%, got pulled over and had to take it off. I even rolled down all my windows. But you figure if he's pulling you over for tint, he already has seen it. So rolling them down does nothing.

well said. As asid above 2... I believe it all depends on the cops and what state u live in. The laws are different for each state.
So play safe, I have 5% on all except the two frnt windows which is 35% (legal limit)
U see what happens is the reflection if u have a dark interior to start with and u tint or close ur sunroof the tint might appear darked.

Most cops use a light meter to see if its legal or NOT but he usually has to pull u over before he tests the car, so I guess it just depends on how noticable it is and if u were speeding, ur driving habits or just plian old how noticable ur car is to start with.
I got a friend who was pulled over 4 his loud exhaust, then was given a ticket 4 sriving agressively + illegal tint and some other crap.......... so it all DEPENDS:devilgrin

I've kind of noticed, that a dark tint stands out more on a white car than a black car. My buddy's 20% on his white car almosts looks black paint against 5% on my black CL-S.

Exactly, here the cops don't carry light meters. If they think its illegal (even if its not) you will get a fix it ticket and will have to take it to the DMV to get tested by a trooper to see if its really illegal or not. Also remember, even if you have 35% put on, it will show up as illegal if you have it tested since the car has some tint already on the windows from the factory.

True!
I have 35% and been pulled over a couple times for my tint. Been to the MVA twice to have it tested. They let me go each time. The second time I was able to get stickers from them that I have on all of my windows just saying that it's 35% and Maryland State Trooper approved (something like that).

So now if I get pulled over they can see that I have the MD state troopers stickers of approval

A lot depends on interior color.

A black interior is going to have the illusion that the tint is much darker.

Meanwhile, a tan interior is not going to seem as dark.

I want 20% but don't want to get told to take it off. Just don't want to waste my money. I'll probably go with 35% up front and 20% in the back. Anyone have any pics of what that would look like?

Well in texas, the cops dont carry the light meters, but the troopers do for the most part... but they are also alot more leniant here, if they pull you over and you're thuggish and whatnot with a bad attitude, probably gonna get it ticket. however if your polite and explain "it came like this i havent changed it due to the heat, blah blah" they may cut you some slack. anyone who lives in south texas knows what im talking about.. black car + black interior = burnt legs.

5% of every vehicle i've owned, never been pulled over for it. guess im to cool

With my Prelude, which was green with black interior, I had 18% tint. Got pulled over and ticketed for it twice in VA. Never hassled in FL or NY though. Heres a pic of it:

Driving in the backwoods of VA was alittle difficult at night, but you get used to it.

I recieved a tint ticket. The only way at least here in NC they can cite u for the tint is if u were doin something like speeding ect.. and they pull u over. The way I was busted was bc I hit a road block and they were money hungry. I have 14.4% and refused to take it off and had to pay the fine. I dont know how ur state is, but if I was u I would play it safe and get legal, it will save u money in the long run. Yea the darker it is the cooler it is in the car ect but just think twice before u get it done!

Exactly. On the CL I'm going with legal tint. It's not worth the hassle.

Yea well the PA tint law is 70% NET, and if I were to go with legal tint it wouldnt even be worth it. Right now I'm leaning towards the 35%.

Damn. In that case I'd go with 35% as well. It's not too noticable.
