a guy over at www.hondasociety.com with a 2001 accord v6 coupe has similar make wheels. axis/xenex muse, 19x8, 45 offset. he says he didn't rub with his race drop. 225/35 might be the safe bet, unless you wanna go 235/35 like him.

yea those are tight.

Anyway, back to my original question...

So which is it...
225/35-19
or
235/35-19

Which will be closest to stock and which will look/perform best?

Using the wheel calculators that have been posted the 235/35/19s are a closer match to stock than the 225s.

When cars are lowered, the optimal rolling radius seems to become less important than rubbing issues.

I know that 17x8 + 235/45-17 has a rub problem when lowered.

I also have it on good authority (from a number of people) that 18x?? and 235 has a rub problem when lowered (the person I will not name found numerous rub marks on would be no-rub vehicles)

I would think the 225/35/19 would be the safer play if lowered.

Finally, 235/45-17 on stock wheels DOES NOT RUB WHEN LOWERED on Comptech springs.

I'd have to disagree with you wholeheartedly.
I was running 225's on my 18's, which were an 18X7 and had zero rubbing whatsoever. I then switched to 235's and still had no rubbing whatsoever. I am now running 19" wheels with 235/35/19's and still have zero rubbing. You also have to keep in mind that my car is also a lot lower than the majority of the board members. I'm running the eibach sportlines, which is substantially lower than the comptech's or eibach pro-kits.

BTW, if anyone wants to check my tires for rubbage, they are welcome to do so.

You are missing some info....

How wide are your wheels (7", 7.5", 8") -- the width of the wheel alters the section width of the tire. A 225 on an 8" will be very similar to 235 on a 7.5".

For example, the 235/45-17s will not rub with radical lowering on the stock 7" rims, but put them on the 17x8" +48s and they rub when lowered on Comptech springs (The initial response on this was they don't rub, but the person had a close look and found out they did).

Arnold, if you would like to contribute to the "general" pool of info, could you give the "exact" specs on the wheels (as in diameter, width, and offset).

For example, there is some info from HRE that a 235/45-17 with +52 offset may not even rub on an 8" wide wheel and wont on a 7.5".

The key word or THOUGHT is a lot of people say that they don't rub, and they have rub marks on the sidewalls of their tires.

So, if you are "sure" you don't, please add your info to the "I AM SURE I DON'T RUB" poll, and it will (presumably) get added to the Acura FAQ for everyone's edification. I would tend to believe you, the point I'm making is this -- there are some people I've talked to that first made the "no rub" claim and later retracted -- this is a fact!

Okay, EricL. Here are my specs on the rims. I am running 19x8's with a +51 offset utilizing nitto 555's in a 235/35/19.

Btw, "I'm sure I don't rub".

Perhaps HRE is correct in their assertion that +52 offset in 8" with 235 just fits.

As I said, some other folks have made the claim only to retract it later. If you looked at your sidewall after putting 4 people in your car for a scary drive -- I belive you -- OK (thanks)

Well I haven't done the 4 people thing yet. But I had 3 people in the car. With a 120lb. rear passenger, two 18" wheels in the other rear passenger seat and the other two 18" wheels in the trunk. I had to engage in a couple of accident avoidance maneuvers and a pretty tight freeway onramp at a decent speed with no rubbing during that drive. So far, no problems.

BTW -- Arnold...

What's with the sig...

You've got some rather special tires there (234/38/19). Did the English make them?

Are you fender's rolled (yes/no)?
