18 X 8.5?
Sup everyone,
I was wondering if 18 X8.5 wheel is too wide for our cars. I think the offset of the wheel is 35mm. I got a good price on a set of new Neeper Fly wheels, I just hope they can fit.

Ogolden1's got those Zenetti Vega's (18x8.5) and if I recall, it did fit. It all depends on the offset. I had them too, but I sold them for other reasons. They did stick out a bit though, well right to the lip of the body instead of about an inch within. I think I'd stay with 8" at the most, looks more natural.

RMG... yeah, i have 18x8.5 with 225/40's.
245/40 does fit too, but i just got 225 just incase... if you wanna see a pic, you can find my car on the "pics of cleared lights and rims", still a fairly new topic in the Car Talk forum.
and 18x8.5 will indeed fit... you MUST make sure your offset is right... mine is 41mm, but take note that i have a CL-P, and the offsets are different from a premium and a type-s.
for a type-s, the offset aim is about 50mm, and for a CL-P, the offset aim is about 40.
in my opinion, 8.5" is TOO thick. i only got 8.5 width because i got a really good deal on them... but the good thing about it is that steering feels 'thicker'. i'd recommend 18x7.5,7.0 with an offset of 45-50mm. the best thing to go with would be the stock width...
so 18x7 with a 50mm offset would be an ideal wheel spec upgrade for a Type-S.
hope this helps!

The CL-S stock wheel is 17x7 +55mm. If you increase the width by .5" then you should decrease the + offset by 5mm to +50mm, and if you go to 8",then you would do best to go to +45mm offset. Do you agree ?

Dr. think a 8.5 is very wide. 40 mm would with a 225 or 235 would be possible if car wasnt' lowered too much.
33 mm in a 8.5 makes for pleanty of room on the inside of the wheel and tire, but Dr. predicts patent will need inner fender surgery or will welcome the a visit from the DR (if the doctor has sharpened his bag-o-tools).

The keyword here is "most" say. proly right
A small tire on a 18x8.5 might make it -- see tire calc link.
The following works with a car that isn't lowered too much
235/45 - 17 tires
with 17 x 8 +48 offset
I tried the calc, research the wheels, run the combo, and it works great. Added some people and weight to try to simulate lowering. Sorry, I can't guarantee some of the street scraping lowering jobs, but anything with Comptech like lowering will work -- no problem.

Here is a typical listing from the tire-calc width link comparing the stock tire and rim vs a 235/45-17 on a 17x8" rim with a +48 offset:

It's time for me to make a decision. I think I'll try out the wheels with 225/40/18's. I would hold off if the wheels were not the Neeper Flys. These wheels are sick. Thanks for the help.
