1457 error code

About once every three months I get the check engine light on and have error code 1457,,, this translates to a nightmare of vacuum lines and hoses,, per the Helms. Has anyone found what the failure culprit is ??? After reset, the error disappears for a couple of months??? I know it's easy just to reset it but I would like to fix something???

do u leave the car running while re-fueling...if so...STOP!!!!!!!!
if not then take it to the dealer or ignore it. It's an evaporative emissions code meaning ur ecu is detecting a gas vapor leak. It could be something as small as replacing ur gas cap or could be a sensor or valve in the gas tank assy. good luck

Thanks I read thru The T/Shooting procedures and I don't want the dealer to do any of it,,, due to the car has 75k miles and is out of waranty.. The gas cap idea might be it,,, I don't leave the car running but can't be sure 100% of time,, (read wife ??) and had the cap vacuum tested (passed) but that might be it. Honda / Acura mech. friend says all I can do is start replacing valves,,
Thanks again. jus t have to wait for a Hard failure.

I have the same code except it occurs more often. The light never goes out. I reset it and it will come back within a week. I think the gas cap code is 1456. I've just been ignoring it for a couple months and have had no problems. I guess that evap thing just controls how much vapor is released into the air so I guess we're polluting more than normal. A guy at the dealer said it would not hurt anything if it goes unfixed but that damn light is annoying.

Also, you might want to check the wires down there. I saw that one of mine was cut in half. I spliced it but I still get the code so I'm guessing that wire is probably screwed.

Here in Texas (Dallas county) the car will not pass emisson tests with the light on or even if there is any error codes in the buffer. To turn off the service engine light just remove the neg terminal off the battery for five minutes. The codes will clear out of the buffer after about 100 miles of driving. The code will come on again if the error resets it. Mine seem to stay off for about 3 months. Yes it just means a small vacuum line or a in line valve is bad. Helms has over 20 different steps to check the lines, need a vacuum pump and still at best it's a crap shoot guess.

Also...do u top off ur gas when re-fueling. If so this is also a big NO-NO. if u do on a regular basis then chances are ur two-way valve is filled w/ fuel.

Just a suggestion before u start replacing sensors

You can also pull the #13 Clock fuse in the passenger side fuse box. Will still have to re-set the clock but not the radio. Make sure and let the car idle after warming up for 5 minutes or so after re-setting.

It is a common issue and is ultimately due to the Canister Vent Shut valve becoming faulty or a bad EGR valve. Get your dealer to contact Honda. They should cover it.

My main concern is whether or not it will harm the car in the long run if it goes unfixed. Both of us are out of warranty so what would the cost for fixing this be? I'm not shelling out 300 buck for diagnostics fees, etc. when the part is less than 100 dollars. The helms manual has a crapload of steps to go through to check the problem.

Under $200 parts and labor, but Honda will cover all or part. Discuss with your dealer or dealers. Honda paid for mine out of warranty. My

Noob says THANKS!!!

I'm 2-4-2 using the advice I got from knowledgeable CL ownerz. I am so glad that I joined this site. I got rid of code 1456 and the srs light in a matter of about 6 minutes.

most of the time (like 99%), it's the canister vent shut valve that causes this.

17310-S84-L31 about $43

why it takes time to turn check engine on ?
because the problem has to occur in 2 driving cycles in a row (cold start, warmup and normal temperature cruising)

so if it detects the problem on a driving cycle, it puts it with a temporary flag.... if it happens again in the next driving cycle, it'll turn on check engine light. if it doesn't occur in the next driving cycle, it clears the temporary status.

we always have one in stock at acura because it happens regularly
