1-2-4 shift???

So does anyone else get lazy and skip third gear??? When I know I'm going to have an open stretch of city road, I find myself skipping third and just going into 4th from second. At 5am on the way to work, I guess I'm lazy.

Anyone else do this?

Yep, I skip a couple of gears here and there. Usually with me it's when I wind out third to get on the highway. Once I hit ramming speed... ahhh.. cruising speed.. I'll just go to 6th.

Haven't skipped 3rd that often tho'. I like 3rd gear

I never skip gears

I don't even think about shifting it just happens, so skipping gears would actually require more work on my part

Oh, I do too...

Problem is, I like 1st, 2nd and 4th too. Even 5th pulls the car like a bat outta hell.

uhh, yeah, I do actually. I usually ride around gate-shifting for no apparent reason, and I "skip" third a lot.

Yeah but that doesn't count! Technically I skip 1-4 because the majority of the time I stay in 5th.

for everyday driving, 1-2-3-5 is pretty common. If I'm flooring it to get on the highway, 1-2-3-6 happens a lot. If you're at the speed you want to be at by the end of 3rd gear, and it's time to cruise, why go into 4 or 5 when you can go straight to 6, even if it's automatic to you? Skipping gears in cases like that is almost automatic to me.

I skip gears once and a while, but not often.
I bought this car because I LOVE to row through the gears.

I never skip 2, or 3, but I do skip 4th and go to 5th. I never stay in 5th, if I'm crusing I go into 6th. I was passing some cars on a 2 lane and realized I did it in 6th, with ease. Great car.

I do if I'm just puttering around...I go 1-2-4-6...I love to row this thing, but somtimes the gears a little too close...and at least we are not forced to go 1-4 like the Corvette is...of course, I could put up with that for 350 or 405 ponies. You know, if I had to

I always wondered...like..on the 6-speed's what are the max speeds in each gear? Like, on my 01 CL-S.....2nd is like 65, 3rd is 105, 4th is 147, and 5th is 135. What are they on the 6-speed's?

I down shift from 6th to 3rd all the time (at about 50-65 mph) to get around the left lane bandits

Just don't try it when you're doing 130 mph

I do that quite often sometimes too. The Z/G35c have really short gears and with so much torque, it sometimes seems like a waste.

I didn't believe my eyes when I first read it, but the manual for my Z says that the ideal shift speed from 4th to 5th for normal driving is 28 mph!!!

That means shifting 5 freaking times by 28mph!

BTW.. If someone doesn't believe me about these shift recommendations, here's a link to the manual in PDF.. Check page 131 (section 5-14)

When i get lazy or talk on the phone i go 1-4-6. I even tried running 1-3-4 at the 1/4mile just for the fun of it. At that time i had only 325rwhp 336rwtq and the car ran 13.7 at 104mph
