03 tail lights not 100% Compatible w/01

I recieved the 03 tail lights yesterday. I took out the 01 tails and I noticed something, the turn signal hole for the light bulb harness is too large for the 01 harness. I believe that it requires a totally new harness for a colored bulb. Kinda sucks. So right now I have what looks like cleared out tighl lights. But the bulb is hanging loose in the tailight recepticle. The only solution I can think of is ordering the 03 turnsignal harness and hope that it fits the 01 wiring.

You could always just give them to me, and I'll figure something out:P

That makes sense. When all of the TL guys were ordering the Inspire tails (and later the '02 tails) for an '01 TL they needed to buy a new harness as well. Actually, Tim (autocarparts) sold two versions of the '02 tails... one with the harness and one without. I'm sure he'll do the same thing for the CL tails as more harnesses become available. Since they did that for the TLs it doesn't surprise me that they did the same thing for the CL tails....

Some of the TL guys just used tape to fix that problem. I would suggest you try that first. Its worth a shot.

If the only difference is the bulb socket, go to an autoparts store and get a new plastic socket. Bring the tail with you to get the right size. Then just cut off the 01's smaller socket, solder in the new one to your harness, and you are set. Much cheaper than buying a whole wiring harness for all the lights.

Beside the harness are they pretty easy to put in. Everything else is compatible? You order them from www.autocarparts.com right. Do youhave to get anything else or is everything come straight from www.Autocarparts.com
thanks for the help

Everything else is compatible and they look real good. I took pics of the install and will post later. It took about 20-30 minutes for both requiring a screwdriver and socket. One thing I might mention is to remember to take out the small black control unit thing from the old tail light and put it in the new one. You'll see what I'm talking about once I post pics. I bought mine from the dealer for way too much but at least I have them.

Called up Acura Parts - They said that you couldn't order just the socket you have to order the entire wiring harness for about $25 but I think it must be cheaper somewhere else. And $5 for the bulb. I thats for both sides, not sure.

Doh, I just ordered the 03 tails yesterday thinkg I wouldn't run into a problem like this. I wonder if Tim threw in the wiring harness with my 03 tails? That's be cool, but unlikely.

I ordered it from Acura. But I should have ordered it from ACP, they have it at a better price.

You don't need a new harness!! Don't waste your money!!

Just get some electrical tape, and some new amber bulbs, if they are like the 02 TL tails, the bulb is a modified 1157A bulb. Cost you about $4.

Also, you could paint them silver too to hide the egg-yolk!!

Hey Wayne, are you sure that is the part we need? I would like to go ahead and order it so I can install my lights on Monday. I would think that may be something the dealer has in stock.

Like juniorbean said, sounds just like the 2002 TL tails used for the 99-01. One socket was just alittle off, I just stuck it in, and turned it just right to stay, but it is not a perfect fit.
My TL has been like that for 2 1/2 years, no problems.
But some TL owners wanted a perfect fit, so I added with and without harness.
Looks like I will have to do the same for the 2003.
I will do that today, and contact the ones that ordered, that the harness will be needed
