03-CLS pricing- any advice/help?

hi guys

i have been searching for a 03 CL-S White/parchment- 6-speed
i found one for $20,500 w/21k miles.

here are the values:

KBB: 20, 940- EXC.
19,810- Good

Edmunds: 18,610-Outstanding
17,516- Clean

What do you all think is a fair price?
and why such difference between KBB and Emunds?

I think it's a good price. only variables would be how much warranty time is left, and area of the country.

Sounds like a good price... and that's the asking price. you should be able to get at least $500-$1000 off that with some negotiating...

sounds like a good deal to me with that warranty and low mileage.. did you purchase from a local acura dealership or from a private party?

Congratulations man. I hope the whole transaction goes smoothly. 6 speed is definitely the way to go.

Oh yeah, great price for the miles.

I dont know about that price being too great... Iv been looking around everywhere from internet sites to dealerships and I've seen a lot of 03 cl-s 6mt with like 25k miles for 18k asking price and the rest around the same area, give or take 5k miles and $1k more or $1k less... the ones with navi is where the price reaches $20k but that is still asking price.

re pricing

i know 18 does sound more reasonable; i was hoping for 19k
but we are at 19.5 k now; however, i have not bought it yet!

the advantage to this car is that its in-service date was late 04 so the warranty will go out longer and it comes with acura care 7year 100k warranty that conveys to each buyer

does that make up for higher price?

CHazz, you also were specifically looking for a white 6spd, no ??

The extra warranty and the fact that it's in the color you want makes the price ok IMHO...

I don't mind paying a little extra for a car if it's exactly what I want.

good point

that's true it is difficult to find low mileage 6-speed in your preferred interior/exterior color combo even w/o navi
though prices do seem to be dropping precipitously

The prices have dropped a bit (the 6spds came out almost 4 years ago), so they are starting to hit the part of the depreciation curve where it starts to level out.

My car has 43K miles on it, and it's probably worth $17K or so (private sale)... it's dropped (on average) a little over 3K a year, but for the next 2-4 years, I don't expect it to depreciate more than 1-1.5K a year...

The production date is just stamped on the sticker on the door, I don't think you can decode the date from the VIN, but we probably could guess at the production date by the vin.

The last 4 (or 5 if it was built later in the production run) characters are the production number. Mine is 8866, and it was built in August 02.... There were 16,000 and some odd CL's made and the last ones were made in May/June of 03.

There were about 16337 CL's made (auto's and 6spds), so the one you're looking at was made towards the end of CL production. That seems to jive with the in service date in 04... Since the CL was discontinued in June of 03, It makes sense that the cars weren't moving off the lots.

FYI: Acura sold 283 CL's in 2004 and 1 (yes, one) in 2005. [1]

My car was built in August 02, and I brought it home on 10/03/02... It sat for a couple of months (unloved) in a lot somewhere...

Back to pricing... I think 19K would be fine. It's the color you want, it's got the extended warranty, so it sounds like a decent price. Not great, but decent.

When I threw my $17k number out there, that was what I was doing. Just throwing a number out there. I'd price my car for a quick sale. Warranty ends in less then 7K miles on mine, and it's "arrest me red" which isn't a popular color with some, but I think it kicks ass... It's also has some dings here and there (which I need to take care of before the masshole meet in april).

I'm just posting some of the PM's that me a Chazz exchanged this weekend, 'cause I want some feed back on my opinions (and post here are searchable, so I'll be able to easily find 'em if/when these questions come up later:

i see in your FAQ link extended warranties are 1000
is the 7-year acura care the same price?
Extended Acura Care Warranties are priced differently depending on the miles of the car... Higher the mileage the higher the cost. So my car w/ 43K miles would be more expensive to buy a warranty for then a car with 21K miles.

Also, you can do some shopping and call different dealers, to get a warranty. We had people from the south get better quotes for from a dealer in MA. Curryacura.com has also been mentioned as having good prices for warranties.

$1000-$1700 or so seems to be the price range people have posted about (but that's for different mileages and different dealers)..

Here's one thread of 100's that came up when I searched for - extended warranty.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ended+warranty

Shawn S got 20 or 21 for his CLS w/ 33K miles on it w/ a 75K warrenty (but he had some expensive rims and other mods):

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...light=warranty

here's what he paid for his warrenty:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...light=warranty

When I do an online autotrader search for 03 CL's w/ manual transmission nationwide w/ under 30K miles, I get 13 cars listed:

http://autotrader.com/fyc/searchresu...lor=&x=98&y=10

$23,985 Highest price
$18,500 Lowest price
$21,946 Average price

So, the asking price is in the range, but there are some cheaper. The blue one for $18.5, w/ 11K miles which you should be able to get cheaper than 18.5 (maybe 18 maybe lower ), but it's the wrong color and it's in MI.

I was suprised at the number of 6spds out there forsale... 13 w/ under 30K miles, and if I open it up to under 60K miles, there are 91 6spd forsale.

Hmm... maybe it's easier to find these then I originally thought.

I ran a kbb on my car, and if I were to sell it today, I'd list it for 19.5K (or so) and take 18... you can disregard my 17K figure

I hope you don't mind, but I'm probably going to post some of the PM's we've been trading back and forth in your thread, because:

1) it's a shame that others can't comment on my opinions.

2) PM are searchable like posts are, so noone will every see my brilliant discussions

3) I might just be crazy, and other member in a thread would keep me in check...

Later,

John

I'm pretty sure the blue one in MI was wrecked and has been repaired. I saw it on ebay a few weeks back and it obviously didn't reach reserve. FYI
