03 cls 6spd vs bmw z4
I've been meaning to post this for a while but just haven't gotten around to it. My older brother has a z4 roadster that he's been bragging to me about for a while now about how fast it is and how he beat this porche and that car and so forth for about 4 mos. now. I just kind of let it go for a while, and every now and then he would say that he wanted to race me and that he would smoke my ass and so forth. Now, I didn't talk any smack until I knew for sure that he didnt have the z4 m, with the inline 6 with 333 hp and six speed manual, cause I wouldn't be able to compete with that.
I probed him with a few questions to try and determine what he had, be I really don't think he knew, as he isn't a car enthusiast like myself and my other brother. One sunday morning he called me to meet for coffee at starbucks, so i got to take a look at what he had. No m model, so I knew I had him beat, since i had already previously roasted a 330i, I figured that I would get him pretty easily. I took him down tx state highway 360 near where it ends at us287, as not to may cars travel there and i've never seen a cop down there. Those of you from Dallas/Ft Worth know where im talkin about. We stayed on the phone the whole time, so I could talk to him while I roasted him like a marshmellow. All in all we made about 10 runs, some from dead stop, some from slow roll(about 30 mph) and some from about 60 mph. I roasted him EVERY time, I mean, he wasn't even close. The only time he even hung with me was when I toyed with him, when I shifted into second, took my foot off the gas, let the rpm's go all the way back down to idle, then revved it up again and went into third. I let him get ahead with that, but by the time I got to 4th and punched it, I left him by about 25 to 30 car lengths. I took it up to about 120, which is close to the 4th gear limit in this car, and he was nowhere to be found by the time i got there. Quite frankly, it was an embarrassment.
The problem is, his car has good power on the low end(not as good as the cl though, cause he still couldn't get a lead there either), but when you get to the high end, the car doesn't have nearly enough punch to keep up with me when the cam changeover happens, I just walk away from him. That car has some really shitty cams, cause the high end sucks. He was so humbled after i dusted him, he was saying stuff like " this car is made to get out ahead and stay ahead, not to catch anybody from behind" , and stuff like that, where as before he was talkin cash money shit about how he beat all of these fast cars and was going to smoke me. I asked him if he wanted to race and he said no, i'd be just wasting gas trying to race you.
One time when we actually got on 287 instead of 360 and i opened it up to about 135 or so, I left him so bad that I was actually pulled over to the shoulder and waited for him, just like in the fast and the furious. The times I didn't play with him, I left him by at least 20 car lengths each time. He told me he had no idea acuras were so performance oriented besides the nsx, and i told him, where have you been. He would have had a better chance against my previous car, a 2000 gs-r, but im not sure he could even beat that! I said you should take yousr car back to the factory and tell them they left the sport out of his sports car. Strike up another kill for Japanese over German. Peace

it sounds like you enjoyed quelling your brother's shit talking. and it sounds like his Z4 is just the 2.5L I-6 model(184 bhp). the 3L(225 bhp) would give you a run for your money. i never saw you mentioned either of the cars having mods, so i am assuming they are stock.

The CL type S with a 6MT is a total sleeper. No one will give the car respect until they get a good long look at you tail lights. If you get the comptech supercharger, you can fight with the M cars.

according to the cl faq the type S can reach it's governed speed of 147 in 4th AND 5th gear.........unless you actually meant close to the end of third.........

4th gear in a 6spd will only take u to 120...shift into 5th and 6th and it will take u to over 140..ive taken my 6spd to just under 145 before freaking out and backing off the acc

he's right, on a bone stock six speed 4th tops out about 120 or 125, I have taken it to the limit several times. YOu can reach top speed in 5th though. I haven't done it, but i hit 145 in 5th and the car was still pulling hard before i shut it down'
