03 CLS 6MT v. g35 sedan

I was on 495w in the D.C. area......the part with the curvey roads? My car has 3 passengars and a trunk full of light luggage. I'm in 6th gear and this g35 is with me weaving in and out of traffic to pass the slow ppl. I didn't know he wanted to race but he kept pullling close and then stomping on it. I did my best in the curvey parts as he had the advantage. I couldn't always take the right angle.

The race:
We finally get some open space. In 6th drop to 4th and my RPM is at 4000k. He gets right next to me and trying to do the
"blow-by". I punch it......he's at my bumper and can't gain any ground!!!! As I got into the 5k plus range I started to pull on him. He just didn't have enough juice. I took it up to 110mph but i had my mother and fiance in the car and didn't want to risk it. So he flies by and then he turns at the next exit......he had to slam on the brakes..... I flashed my hazards to signal the win.

Observations:
RWD gave him the advantage on the curvey parts but i just out pulled him on the straights. It was awesome to see him take some crazy curves at 85mph. One of my next cars NEEDS to be RWD.

heheeh well, not sure about the cojones but the great thing about the CLS is that it is pretty stable and you don't feel like you are going fast. Also, everybody around my knows i'm such a car nut so i guess she thinks she knows what i'm doing.....to an extent I do. Heh, i've also raced ricers with her in the car. She'll be like, "WTF is wrong with that car????" She has her limits though. I got to 110 and she's like ok that's enough slow it down. I agreed.

My mom would have had a heart attack, but good kill Zapata! I wrote about my G35 sedan kill a few months ago. They can't touch the CL-S 6speed on the straights or in the curves as far as my experience went. A little closer competition in the twisties though I do admit. Dream on Infiniti, we'll take your detuned Nissan Z as well i.e. the G35 coupe.

A properly driven G35 will crush a CL-S in the turns. The G35 has posted better slalom speeds than the 330i.

If they had better tires on the CL-S from the factory it would do alot better.

better yes.... enough to beat a G35 or almost any RWD car through the turns I doubt it. Excellent for a FWD car but still not enough to compete.

Yes you can make it handle better with the right mods, but then your going Modded vs Stock.... if you mod the rwd car and we will never touch it.

Welllll......not SO true. It depends. If you were to gut the interior, CF hood, move the battery to the back, coilover setup you will transform what the CLS 6MT can do. There isn't much hope with for the automatics with the open differential. Just because a car is FWD doesn't doom it to bad handling.

Exactly. Like the Type-R Integra.

RWD is ALWAYS the choice for handling. FWD makes the car front heavy, which equated to understeer.

Good story and kill. Your mom must be kinda cool. The G35 has pickup all the way to 110mph, a very swift car.

Eh..... ITR does pretty dang well. Of course i'm speaking in terms of track cars where you can do many things to correct everything your talking about. Stock STreet cars RWD would dominate without question.

1SICKLEX,
Yeah she is I was quite suprised that the g35 didn't just blow past me but once your moving at those speeds it's all about HP AUTO v. MANUAL drivetrain loss gave me the edge and possibly the gear ratios.

Pretty sweet. The G35 sedan is a pretty nice drive though, even though it's an auto w/ the sport shift thing. My brother has the G35 and hopefully we'll have some time to race. But I really do feel that on a straightaway, our CLS will pull on it and take the win, but if you throw in turns, the G35 is much more stable and controllable.
