258hp SAE-net. The CL-S' 260hp is not SAE-net but I doubt the SAE-net would yield any significant reduction in the rated HP of the J32A2.

Auto vs Auto, I will go with the CL-S in this contest. The 3G TL 5AT does not seem any quicker than the TL-P I have rented on a few occassions....and the TL-P is not as quick as the CL-S 5AT.

It's strickly a power to weight ratio thing since the cars are both FWD and both are made by Acura. The gearing is probably different between the two, but that isn't going to make a big difference.

Who cares what one is faster anyways.... Unless you want to race

BTW, starting another thread five minutes after a mod has moved the first one isn't going to score you many points with the moderating staff here

Historically, "which car is faster" threads go into the street encounters forum.

The TLs come standard with 259 HP and the CL type S has 260 standard look on Acura.coom if u dont believe. I will bet any day though on the CL to spank a TL.

Hey genius as stated earlier acura has moved to SAE rating since the CL was discontinued. The TL actually has about 270hp under the old rating system, but its a drivers race. Your not going to spank any TL

Courtesy of the Rick Case Acura stealership I have driven several 2005 Tl's over the last couple of months. My 2001 CLs auto (UR crank pulley, gutted resonator and K&N filter) is 2 tenths quicker than the best time I could get out of the TL (14.6 to 14.8). Without these mods I used to pull a 14.8 to 14.9 depending on the fickle South Florida climate.

Under the new SAE rating our cars actually dip into somewhere around 248-253 hp :ghey: so that 258 - 259 hp for the new TL's could possibly be correct.

Here's the deal on HP. Acura (Honda) are the only manufacturer to use the new HP rating system (SAE J1349).

05 TL 270, 06 TL 258. In reality its identical. It is essentially like switching to the metric system, if you live 1 mile from work, you also live 1.6 kilometers from work, 1.6 kilo sound like more, but they are identical.

The 03 CL type S was rated at 260 under the old system, The 06 TL is rated at 258 under the new system. The 06 TL engine is more powerful.

Under the new system the CL type S would probably rate @ 249.

SAE J1349 came about because some manufacturers (Hyundai) wer pulling some very deceptive moves while testing for HP, ultra slick oils that would break down after about 1 hours use, air condidioned rooms to provide colder air .......
The new standard is very strict and descriptive regarding testing conditions and requires an SAE representitive to be present to get an official SAE rating.

check your actuator now, bud. i have easily walked away from a 3G TL with CAI. and i'm talking a few carlengths by 80 mph. the reason being that the difference is my headers. i'm pretty sure it would be pretty damned even stock for stock.
