'03 Accord Coupe overrated

I saw two yesterday already in the parking lot on campus... both V6es they're really nice... great body style (i think)... according to magazine reviews they're just as fast as a CLS 6sp in their auto form (14.54 is the best I've seen), and the price is a 1-2 grand less than a CLS. O yeah and a more aggressive looking stance than our 4X4 CLS.

But then you look at some of the details and it's not anything that will blow away our CLSes...
I haven't gotten to sit in once but just from a in the window glance the seats look really crappy compared t our nice snug seats and the leather is definetely cheaper looking, only 16" rims, and brakes looked smaller.

I'm confused. In the first paragraph you praise it... and in the second you rip it.

I'm not sure how you can say it's over-rated. You do realize it'a an Accord, right? You do know that it's not meant to compete with the CL, right? So why would you compare it? You should be comparing it to the Altima or Camry, etc.... not a CL. And on top of all of that... you haven't driven in one. Have you read the threads on here praising the way the V6 drives? I think you may have used the wrong word.. b/c over-rated isn't the correct one....

It would be fair to compare a 3rd gen CLS to a 7th gen Accord. We'll have to wait till a redesigned CL comes out to make the comparison tho'. The current CL is based on an older platform, so of course the accord is going to be different.

I was going to wait for the 6spd Accord coupe to come out, but after seeing the styling of the accord on the sedans (I didn't like the dash/interior), I decided to buy the CLS 6spd. I'm not totally crazy about the exterior styling, but I'm getting used to it.

I still like my CLS better then the Accord, G35, etc. etc.

the thing is we cant compare the accord and cl regardless of generations, they are both in different type of class

but i do like the new accords

The front end looks more aggressive but they went an Fed up the ass. Rear light assembly looks like it fell right off the Camry. IMO, I'd rather spend the extra $1-2k (not a lot of money when you think about it) and get something that performs as well, is plush, and OMG... be one of a few on the road. I'd hate to see old ladies and soccer moms drivin the same car I am.

I think the new accord will be nice, and blow away other cars in it's class. I still love my CL, for the refinement and luxury it provides.

Dude, I've seen old ladies driving Camaros. Newer ones at that. Actually, I recall now that I was on the highway next to a woman in her 50's with a "disabled" placcard hanging from the mirror of her '03 CL-S. That's one demographic I don't think we'll be able to completely avoid.

But I do agree about the soccer moms!

I test drove one this past weekend - EX-V6 (I didnt' realize the 6speed was not out yet). Overall it was a very nice car. There were little things that made it a Honda instead of an Acura though.....the leather was not as nice, it was that pebble grain look that reminds me of cheaper cars, the armrest didnt' have a "smooth" look - too square on the edges -- like ours does so it seemed cheap to me. When you opened the center console ( the one I drove was already broken ...not too good for quality control) it didn't look as finished inside .. no felt or whatever the heck that furry stuff is. One thing I really like on our consoles are the little bumps on the releases for the 2 compartments so you open the correct one all of the time, the Honda didn't have them. all in all, it was a fantastic Honda, but I still think Acura goes the distance for for the finishing touches. I was not too crazy about the headliner material either. It drove and handled nice though and had a nice list of standard features, I think Honda has another winner here, but it just isn't an Acura.

in my opinion, there's just something about the front of the accord that just doesn't sit well with me....the rest of the car is cool though....i really like the center dashboard with that big knob a la 745

The new Accord looks great, but it's still an Accord, not a CL/IS/3 series contender. It may be cheaper but I still think the CL wins in a beauty contest.

And gee, doesnt Type-S sound soooo cool, hahahaha.

And "I still like my CLS better then the Accord, G35, etc. etc." is pushing it. G35 coupes are hot. Although that is your own opinion

I JUST saw my first coupe, ugly. The car sits higher than my car, is taller and looks kinda weird. The sedan looks better IMO, I kinda like the sedan.

I dunno, the sedan looks good to me, Honda always makes great interiors. I do notice the same crease in the sides in the IS 300, Altima and new Accord sedan. The rear is kinda weird with the lights. THe coupe looks ungainly, like most new cars in need of bigger wheels (the new ES 300 for instance).

Well, guess we can't do sheot about who buys the car outside its intended demographic. The most frustrating thing for me living in LA is seeing some 70 yr ole wench driving Porshe GT2s and the like (at 20 mph UNDER the Fin speed limit). Got caught behind one of these while on my Sunday drive through the canyons outside Malibu just last week
