Friend had a 3.5SE for rental car (too bad not a stick), so group of us did some runs today. Other friend wanted to see how his Intrepid R/T would hang. The R/T lost all 3 times, so I decided to run against the Max once to show him what the CL can do

I had a horrible launch (man I need some practice with feathering this clutch out on hard launches. Toyos would be nice too). Wheelspin all the way in 1st and first part of second. Needless to say, I was ahead the entire time. Had him by a few car lengths by 100 & I had eased up a lil after 80. Was alot easier than I expected, especially with my crappy launch. At least my friend's R/T will get ahead of me by a bumper off the line.

i don't know..... I am a little worried about the maxs. You have a 6spd right. The max in the vid, hung in there for a while. I haven't had a chance to get a full race with a 02 max but, judging by the vid, they seem to have very good lowend power.

 

Try it with 255 HP 02 maxima and you would see the CLS lose!

 

my launch was horrible... thought i've read on here that the auto-CLS's have no probs either versus the auto 3.5's?

Thats not always the case. My mother has an 02 max SE auto. MY car actually feels slightly faster. Definately a drivers race, if its auto vs auto or 6speed vs 6 speed.

 

I would say they are good matches for each other, as long as you stick with the same tranny as yours - I.E. auto vs. auto or a 6spd vs 6 spd.

 

The '02 Maxima and CL-S are VERY close in straight line performance given they have the same trans.....the win will go to the better driver.

I think that auto v. auto the CL-S is slightly faster. Pretty much a drivers race though

i think my cls feels slightly faster than my mothers auto max. then again. i also have headers and a cai. it really is a drivers race.

I had to register just to say I'm impressed by the general attitude in this forum. Seems like you guys didn't just dismiss the max and gave it some respect too. My roommate has a TL and a friend of mine has a 02 CL-S. I drive an older maxima (5speed), but we all have mutal respect for each others cars. I'm glad you guys go against the grain and show some class.

 

me as well. i'm a 98 5 speed maxima driver. i know theres a rivalry and i'm still pretty pissed off though after hearing about the banner on the org. im sure you know what im talking about- BUT anyway this thread at least is classy, and it makes me want a 02 6 speed
