Both stock . . . ah, the odds are in the GS430's favor . . . unless they can't drive it, even then it's gonna take some serious driving in the CLS . .

if you had a mod'ed CLS, then I'd say it was still heads but, but you'd have a chance.

get an RL and you might stand a chance. Who would abuse an RL though?

I think you need to do some mods so you can get these challenges out of the way

Seriously. sounds like you are competitive and while a TypeS was a reasonably fast car, newer models coming out will surpass it. So the only option is to by a faster new car or mod your old car. You can mess around with all sorts of mods that'll knock a 10th of here and there, or you can add a S/C and get in to the 13s just like that. Considering the cost of all these newer faster cars, even the S/C is a deal.

BTW, you should beat a stock is300, but not the new is350.

The GS has the edge but if you put 10k in mods onto it the CLS would take the prize and the CLS would still be over 10k cheaper than the GS...Plus the CLS (in my opinion) looks a million times better

You would most likely take the GS out of the hole, for a very short time. The GS has top geared trans and rear gear. After about 3 secs the GS would take the CL and walk further and futher away.

The 430 will probably have the edge. If you had a 6spd it would be a different story. I beat a GS400 on the eway with no problems but then again I have a 6spd, and I'm pretty sure the GS400's are faster than the new 430's.

02 GS430 has the same if not better gearing than the GS400, along with lower rpm points for max hp/tq. Both of these cars have better gearing than the CLS. While only weighing 200 some pounds more than the CLS, the GS430 has +40hp and +90tq being reached at lower rpms than the CLS. The GS430 is faster than the GS400, and faster than the CLS...vs GS400 would be very close though I believe. A 6speed will take the GS400 and may beat the GS430 (better gearing, slightly more power to ground with mt than auto CLS).

2002 GS430 300 HP ; 325 ft lb 3707 lbs

2000 GS400 300 HP ; 310 ft lb 3689.4 lbs

Would be very close. Remember the GS400 had Tiptronic paddle shifters. Maybe the 430 would get the best of the 400 though. In any case both these cars would be hard for an auto CL-S to beat...

since i had both of these cars and drove them extensively, i can say that you will need i/h at the very least to keep up.
and a gs400 is supposed to be faster than the 430, i would say they are pretty much even. the gs400 came with the manual shift egear crap, so you could redline each gear. it would be much harder to redline each gear in a 430 due to the slow response of the tranny (when gate shifting).
the higher speed you go, the more the GS will pull on you. if you launch the GS4 properly, it will take a TL/CLS with I/H/E without a problem everytime, i know this because i ran my TL-S with I/H and the GS would take it by at least 1 car length everytime.

you're right, you could still beat it w/ less the 10k in mods, just making a point that even w/ 10k in mods you're still 10-15k under what the Lex costs

I agree, even though the GS is heavy a V8 can stretch it's legs alot more at higher speeds then our 6 cylinders. I would guess the GS.

RWD gets better traction, so at the start it grabs the road better than a FWD.

I have I/H/Axel Backs and some sticky tires and I used to beat my friends gs400 all night long. The most I ever won by was like 1 car maxxx. Iv never raced a gs430 though but if some people are saying that its slower than the gs400 then i guess i can take that too. If you are stock then he should have you by 2 cars... I really had to push my car though to put 1 car length on the gs400... You have to use gate shifting ( drop it down to 1>2>3 instead of sportshifting) so that you can hit vtec as soon as you go into second gear otherwise he will walk away from you.
