01 Cls Vs 350z

Hey Guys I have heard this but have never experienced this UNTIL Last night!! Usually here in Houston the imports crusie up and down WESTHIEMER and in one particular part of that street people race... After couple of wins I was on my way home up come a 350z. We are both a feeder road where we are enlcosed and away from traffic and so we both went at it!!

I was amazed that my car with 112k miles on it was spanking the crap outta that car!! BUT BUT!! Man when the car switched to 4th it was like someone took the wind outta the car!! So much to say at that point he pulled on me and he pulled on me like i had accidentally pressed on the brakes. I have heard the fourth gear was weak but I havent experienced this until now!! I am very disappointed!!

IS there anything you guys recomment and can be done about this??

350 z will always woop a cl-s allday everyday stock 4 stock.

Same, but the manual stands a betta chance if the driver is nt very good.
The point is the 3.5 has more torque more HP and the car weighs less. the only advantage we have is a better gearing ratio.

get some headers and a exhaust and a cold air and its OOONNNNNNNNNNN. as long as ti remains stock the 35oz that is

D3 no disrespect but a stock 01 cls isn't going to "spank the crap" out of a Z unless the driver was a granny w/an arthritis riddled body.

Nexed time stop the race at the peak of your winning streek by ending the race just before you hit 4th gear

Umm...am I missing something? A 350/G35 won't necessarily spank the crap out of our babies stock 4 stock, but it will beat us. This has been proven many times in fun runs that I have with a buddy of mine in a 350Z with 19s and my car with only CAI here in Houston as well.

I think g'ma was driving that 350 and/or when you two gunned it that the 350 didn't shift down while you did. Only explanation I can come up with. The only time that I have actually inched up in front of my friend is when we both are doing ~25mph...our car will downshift to 1st while the 350 won't...it will stay in 2nd gear.

The only 350Z I raced was from a stop and I spun a little off the line, but I easily beat it by 2 cars to 80 mph. It was a 6 speed and the guy launched with minimal wheel spin.

Once you get used to the car the torque steer seems to go away. Also if you turn off the traction control it eliminates alot of the torque steer.

Yes stock for stock the 350z should win almost everytime, even with AT. 6 speed would be a little different as there are less holes in the gearing, and you can launch off the line much better. Hell, my 6MT 95 Legend with 230hp will spank the CLS AT off the line. The race with a 350z is close enough though that if you downshifted slightly before them, it would be enough to change the outcome at certain speeds. Anything over 105 in the CLs good luck, best way to handle the power loss is to practice and watch the rpm's closely. Although the redline is 68/69k (whatever), if you are in SS in 3rd gear the rev limiter doesn't actually kick in until around 7300 or so. If you shift at 7200 it will put you at vtec in 4th gear ready to go. The numbers may be slightly off as I haven't driven mine in awhile, but the point remains. Of course, this still doesn't overcome that 4th gear is basically stage 1 overdrive.

yeah 4th gear blows. some nitrous might come in handy just for the 4th...hehe. the 350 might beat you but we are a lot more comfortable riding in our cars than they are in their nissans. trust me.

come on mang. 3/4 carlengths is nothing near spanking. minumum "spanking" requirements are + two carlengths. good job anyways.

I've ran one before. He was a stock 6 speed, and I was on my 125 shot with 110 race gas. I spun them till the end of 2nd gear, and pulled on him in 3rd gear when I got traction. By around 95mph I was ahead of him by a bumper. Exciting run, i thought it was over since I wasn't getting any traction at first and he was ahead of me by 1/2 car from the begining.

Sorry but a 2.3 CL doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell against a G35.

Very much along those lines, I understand that a well driven Chevy Aveo can walk a C6.

It's possible at high speeds. He they were both topped out, then why the hell is it not possible. He never gave the scenario that they both began at 80mph and then gunned it. They were both already at high speeds and just fucked around till who the knows the fuck when. The CL was probably topped out, and the G35 must have held back a bit at those speeds cause he was scared. How the hell is that not possible? I had a hard time pulling on an accord at speeds over 120mph in my 97' VR-4. Dont see how it's not possible for it just because of the hp difference. If the G35 was auto, then obviously his 5th gear would have sucked ass for a freeway run of high speeds just like most other cars due to the gearing. Blah blah blah, dont give a fuck anyways.....

The G35 (in pretty much all forms) tops out at 155mph. A 2.3CL will take forever and a day to reach its ~125mph topend.

As someone who owns both an 02 Maxima (VQ35DE w/ 4AT) and a 99 Accord 4cyl (same powertrain as 2.3CL), I can state for certain that there is NOWHERE on my Accord's powerband where it would have an advantage over my Maxima....and my Accord (now being used by my mother inlaw) still has an Iceman CAI and Apexi WS exhaust. The VQ has just WAY too much power on tap for my F23A4 motor to compensate against. NOTE: The VQ in my Maxima is not as powerful as that of the G35....on paper at least.

But that this may have occurred:

I have backed off on many a race against cars that were slower than my Maxima.

Sidenote: The VR4 should readily walk ANY Accord (incl. the 7G 6MT) from 120mph+.

Agreed. But the Accord had the momentum going already. I was simply trying to play "catch up" which was hard even at those speeds with traffic. I've had plenty of kills in the VR4, but there was no way in hell of me cathching that accord that day with the conditions and factors given to me that day. At least not without killing someone or myself. So I let him go...

we started off at around 90mph... sorry.. forgot to mention that.. but i thought that the fact that it was late at nite and on a freeway would make you assume that i would drive faster than usual... i have my brother as a witness to this... wish i had a vid of it tho....

and F23A4: 125mph isnt the top end for a CL... at least not one that is manual... dont know about auto tho

heres a quik vid i had of me doing 140.... i was going up a hill at one point and the freeway started to even out again. had to stop the video because there was a turn coming up.... you may have to turn the "Brightness" up on ur monitors to see it better... i recorded it from my old ass digital camera

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Utfltd8OBU

and i still had about 700rpms left to claim before hitting redline.. so if you think its not possible to go that fast in our 2.3's... kiss my booty!
