01 CLs v 98 Mustang GT

It's 8pm and the traffic is light and turning on to the same street in front of me is a kind of ratty black 98 Mustang GT with large exhaust pipes. I start to pass her and she nails it and gets a good jump. It doesn't help that my passing gear did not kick in so she had me by 3 cars. I did however have a good opportunity to admire the styling of the rear headlights for what seemed like an eternity....We both stopped to make a right on the light on to Oakland Park Boulevard and nail it. She was ahead to begin with and added half a car length to it with a very strong 10 to 40 mph surge. With the second engagement of the vtec I start to pull but it was torturously slow and we shut down at 90 with traffic coming up. She still had me by a car and a half.

All in all both cars were pretty evenly matched. In the hot summer weather I can run 14.2 to 14.3 and in the cold 14.0 to 14.1 so my Cl should easily be quick enough to dispatch with a 98 GT that comes out of the factory sporting a 225hp V8.

I would not have thought the Mustang was modded effectively by it's shoddy appearance although it obviously had an aftermarket exhaust.

Losing to a gal in the first chapter of the encounter was the icing on the cake.

I applaud you for being honest!

I could have sworn the 98's had 260hp. I guess not. Looks like they have pretty good TQ 290. Plus it weighs 300 lbs less than the cls.
I would have guess the CLS modded as yours is you would have won. But who knows what mods the Stang had.???

I might be looking at getting a 98-99 Cobra in the next year if I can find one in the shape I want.

I think the next generation had 260 horses.

This one was 2 generations behind the retro-styled 2005, correct?

Odd that there was no power change since the Fox body 5.0s of the '80s. Didn't they make 225 horsepower as well?

^

The fox bodies did have 225hp, as did the 4.6l models in the 90s. In 99 the 260hp 4.6l came out. The car still didnt really have any balls though.

I commend you for being honest, but you should have won.

On a side note, was she hot?

What's the weight difference between the two? I think they're pretty close. And there's no knowledge for sure that she was completely stock

She was latina and many of the latina's down here are very hot. I didn't get a chance to scope too hard as she nailed it when I was alongside and was gone.

I had a 99GT with some mods and the CL is quicker. I also raced a 98 GT convertible last fall and walked it.

The 6MT CL is 3446, and IIRC the auto is about 100lbs heavier.
