01 CLS (stock) vs E46 M3

1st kill after 5 years, We are at stop light and we both hit it. Right away he has a half car length through 1st and 2nd. When I hit 3rd gear, he must have got scared and back off completely because at 80mph I had 3 car lengths. So not a real kill b/c he back off. I felt the CLS could keep up with the M3 through the first 3 gears. He had one passenger and I had none. I was very person for spending half the amount of a M3, which I did have a $3000 deposit once for a M3.

i know ima get for posting this but i just wanted to share this . i dont mean to jack this thread but this race was pritty simular to this race. i was on fullerten and colima at a stop light nexed to a old ass camery and i see the headlights of a g35 pull up behind me . when the light turds green he starts riding my ass and when i see him change lanes i start speeding up a little bit and when he gets nexed to me i floor it and he does the same and gets about 1/2 car ahead of me but all of the sudden we get up to a slight left turn and i kept steping on the gas and go right threw the turn and i look in the rear view and see him about 1 car back and im still going and then the passenger in my car gets scared (girl) and yells out slow down ! so i do and then the g35 passes me up runes a red light making a left turn and hits a dip really hard . i know he could of smoked me if he dint get scared around the turn but i just wanted to get that off my chest since it happed 2 weeks ago but it made me smile for a while thinking i beat a g35

If the E46 M3 felt like racing you wouldn't have a chance through 2nd, and by the end of 3rd he'd be about 4 cars on you and once he hits the top end forget about it. An E36 is a different story

Anything's possible... but a stock CL-S even a factory freak could never take a stock E46 M3 if it was trying. I raced my friend's E46 with a custom Magnaflow exhaust and 19x10.5 19x9 SSR GT3's (other stuff like Brembo BBK but that has nothing to do with the race), and I was dropped on Tein Basics, 18x7.5 Tenzo RS5's, and I had my headers. From a dig from a roll he'd take me by a few cars easily. There's just no way.

egh they are not that impressive... i was in back of one at a light and when it turned green he floored it and so did i right in back of him and i had to let off the gas around 30-35 because he had to switch gears and i was about to hit him but then i floored it again and he pulled like 2 from his rear bumper to my front bumper... if i was next to him i think he would ev had me by 1 car since i had to let of to give him time to shift.... i have 01' CLS I/H/E

Try actually racing one. Following one when it actually slowed down to shift (not a great driver if he was trying) is very different than actually racing one. In the right hands, a stock E46 has run high 12's according e46fanatics.com timeslips. Most drivers run low 13's. We run low to mid 14's with I/H/E. That's a couple cars...

who are you all kidding? we all know the CL/S has no business whatsoever with an E46 M3. the E36 one would probably be the one to go down. even then it would have to be a modded 6spd CLS.

U guys are all psychos. An M3 will demolish any stock cl-s, 6spd or auto. The E46 is nothing to mess with. if u run in low to mid 13's, u might have a "CHANCE" to keep up to one. you can see my mods on my signature. i raced one on the highway and i coulndn't even tell u how much i lost by.
on the other hand E36. just because it has 220 hp. its a BMW. that car runs 14.0 stock on a stick. its not that hard to handle. the E46 has 333 hp. thats a 113 hp diff for u people who need help. there is no way we can beat a stock M3 E46. and if u were stock, u have a very small chance of beating a E36.

E36 M3= 240bhp, 0-60 in about 5.5 sec., and mid-low 14sec. 1/4. No way a stock CL-S can touch one.

An E36 possibly, if they're a shitty driver, just like some of us have taken G35C6's. Not by much by it could be done.

I beat one by 1 car length on a freeway on ramp. He had exhaust (dunno what else) and i had CAI...
My car is a 5AT and im guessing he was auto too. Im talking about the old m3 not the E46

I took an E36 too, it was purple... with an exhaust and intake and some shitty 19's. He took me by half a car by the top I topped out 1st, took him by about 3 cars by the time we hit 90. I had headers at the time.

automatic m3 E36 are garbage. they are tired as hell. It is possible to beat an e36 m3. but it is not probable unless the driver sucks, and ur car is modded. but i don't care what car u have and ur racing, its a drivers race.

cl has a small chance to beat an m3 e36, but no way an e46.

IIRC, I have a 1995 C/D featuring the then new E36 M3 5MT coupe which posted a 1/4 mile test time of 14-flat @ 100mph. (I'll have to double check this when I get home tonight.) I dont know how much slower the sedans were though.

so its faster than the 4 door, but what about the 2 door? and if that is true, why are people saying it would take a skilled CL-S driver to beat 1?

You folks need to quit comparing track times or trade rag times to real world street or drag strip results. It doesn't matter if the E36 is a mid or low 14 sec car . . . or any mid to low 14 sec car for that matter . . . when it comes down to cars that are within 1 sec of each other it comes down to several factors that will determine who will actually cross the finish line first . . . and it's not always the faster car. I've proven that at the track and on the street way too many times already.

AGAIN . . A TECHNICALLY FASTER CAR DOES NOT ALWAYS BEAT A SLOWER CAR!!!!!!! If you don't understand this point there is no sense in debating this point.

Oh and for the record . . . I've run three E36s on the street . . . and yeah, I took 'em both.

According to trade rag tests and some other claims it is technically faster . . . but not by so much that it would guarantee a win on the street or track.

A car with 2.7 liters and 67 hp more than the M3 wins, doesn't take a genious to figure that one out tart.

Well . . . he had a bit of trouble, so I couldn't honestly say I would have taken him for sure . . . he blew it off the line . . . spun too hard and didn't have a chance to catch me before traffic . . . so technically a win, but could have been interesting seeing it was a manual.

Real world E36 to CL-S driver's race, usually CL-S's take the win. Real world E46, hands down will win.

The E46 isn't slow as shit. I wouldn't say high 12's low 13's stock is slow as shit. Like mclarenf3387 said, 2.7 liter difference, pretty big torque difference, and from a roll, you better have won. Something isn't slow as shit just because another car beat it. Think objectively instead of subjectively. It just weakens your argument and the way other's perceive you.

does anybody else think that 333-260=113? i think not. and i would not necessarily say "very small". auto vs auto and 6spd vs watever spd the e36 has, i'd say it's pretty much a driver's race. they're quick though, don't get caught slippin on one thats for sure.

what a CL-S trying to race an E46 for anyway. Unless you have an S/C IC and a 3.5L block I'm sure the E46 will walk you.
