So i was coming home from work just now, its midnight and I got off the free way and was at a light in the right lane, i saw some headlights comin up pretty damn fast, i look over and see something like a trans am pullin up next to me, it had flip up lights and was green but looked kinda new like 02 or something, still not sure what it was, but i looked over and it was a guy and he stared at me so I just looked ahead but nodded my head, i was a little nervous because if it was a trans am i know some have v8's, it turned green and i stepped on it, didn't bother with SS cause i was tired from work, it was over after 1st gear, but i still ran out 2nd to make sure and I was at least a car length ahead of him, i put on my hazards and he flipped his lights down then back up, and i turned right at the next light and he gave me a thumbs up, i really doubt it was a trans am because of how hard I beat it, but whatever it was turned out to be my first official kill!

It might have been a firebird, but they still have 3.8L v6, if it was i would be plenty happy

Might have nothing....it WAS a V6 Firebird. You wouldnt have stood a chance against anything with a V8.

a lot of GTs here are all Talk and no walk as in there exhaust is louder then times square during new years yet thats all they have.... walking on Gt mustangs are funnier then pissing sitting down cuz they willl get mad.

Even if it was a V6, he still would have had a hard time pulling 1 car immediately off the line because of the rwd, thats why I am not sure about how serious the other guy pushed it.

Our cars are quick, but don't get caught with your hand in the cookie jar.


Also, a mustang gt is faster than our cars. Don't get confused with beating the driver and beating the car. One day you run into a GT with a good driver and you will get walked, just a warning.

It didn't appear that he was attempting to be a dick in my opinion, rather, shed light on the situation. A stock 99-04 GT runs a consistent 14.2ish, your car with what you have, is around the same, therefore it should be a good race. As for the sn98 (94-98) GTs, we should be able to win, so I am not taking that away from you.

"Magazine racing" is accurate because it depicts the way the car should be ran. I could beat a Dodge Viper SRT-10 if he can't shift for shit and delays off the line, point is, if you beat the driver, it is nothing special.

The LS1 cars are absolutely beasts. They run mid 13s stock and with just simple bolt-ons are high 12s cars, they will beat us unless you have a good turbo without any wheel spin off the lines.

Anyway, I agree with the previous poster, that beating a driver is not something to be proud of, it is beating the car that matters. So it is nice that you won and all, but either it was a V6 or he was not making any effort.

Either way, welcome to the world of the underrated CL-S and you will find races in which you can blow people away because they don't know about our cars.

I know for sure it was not a v8, i never entertained that thought, i have no clue what diff engines a trans am can have so thats why it was my first guess, but I have always known it was not a v8, it looked american muscle but got walked, i know this guy was serious though, maybe he missed his shift to second, cause when i was shifting to second thats when i looked in my side mirror, gosh i really wanna know what it is!

There's actually quite a few V8s we can take down. For instance, as cbus said, the Lincoln LS, also Q45s, some pre-99 Mustangs, SC400s, mid-90s Impala SS, etc. I smacked around a modded out Dodge Dakota R/T not long after I bought my CL-S.

The question shouldn't be can we beat a V8, it should be which V8 can we beat? IMHO the only way to beat a LS1 is hope he lights the tires up through the first 3 gears, and even then you're not guaranteed a win.

First off, I am guessing you mean "Their" and not there....

Second, I love my CL, but am realistic when it comes to racing. Just because a car is faster, it doesn't mean I have "pride" in that car. I despise mustangs, I think they are cheap unattractive cars with decent engines.

And allout, you raced from a roll which is a completely different beast than if you started from a dig, and I know that you know that.

Also, we are comparing a full modded bolt on CL-S Auto (which I also have) against a stock 99 GT. If that puppy adds on a venom fuel reprogram, exhaust, pulley, and CAI, that car will easily be pulling mid to high 13's consistently with a decent driver.

I am just saying, I would hate to see our sexy cars get smoked by a mustang, but you gotta keep it real sometimes unless you have something up your sleeve.

I agree totally. Our cars were built around the driver not like mustangs which are built around the engine. Yea Mustangs/ Camero's have good engines but its the rest of the car that falls apart. I'll chose my slightly slower quality luxery coupe over a fast death trap any day. Plus I don't have a mullet..ha ha.
