01 CL-s Vs. latest gen V6 Altima
So I was out for a cruise the other night around 2:45am. I was on 93N when I see some headlights coming up in the rearveiw pretty quick. As the car pulls closer and pulls next to me I see it was a Altima. I look over and say I wonder what its got. Next thing you know the guys starts hitting the gas as to say lets go. So we both slow down to about 40mph, (were doing like 70 before) I switch to sportshift and catch 2nd gear and soon as he seen me do that he floored it as do I. I pulled 1 then 2 then 3 cars on the altima before I shut it down. We did this like maybe 3 times with the same result each time. Then one final race I was just experimenting by this time I tried to take off from about 80 while leaving it in 4th this time he pulled ahead but beleive it or not it was only by like 1.5 cars and then when I caught vtec again soon I found him being reeled in pretty quick. I still really did not know if it was the 2.5 or the 3.5 untill the final race when I left in 4th and seen the badging on the rear as well as the dual pipes. (Exhaust was the only visual mod) So after that the guy was taking the next exit he gave me the
and I returned it and went on my way. I thought I would share that race with you guys.

this must've been an A/T Altima. cos the manual Altima V6 and Maxima do the same times to 60 and 1/4 mile as an A/T CLS. while you're going 80, you can drop to 3rd and it pulls like a mother since it puts you well into the VTEC range. i tried finding the times for the Altima SE-R but didn't find it. but from what i've read, the 6spd CLS would have to be modded to keep up. good run, bro.

it also weighs ever so slightly more. i would guess it has an upgraded suspension and who knows about the engine internals.

The Altima 3.5SE AT is about as quick (stage-->trap) as an AT CLS, with an edge to the CLS on the traps. Also, the 3.5SE (250hp/249lb-ft) is only a hair slower than the SE-R (260hp/251lb-ft).
Although I'd still give the edge to the SE-R 6MT, a well driven CLS 6MT should keep up pretty well.

TQ > MPG
Auto 3.5SE = 14.9 @ 93mph
5 speed 3.5SE = 14.5 @ 97mph
SER's are only a tenth or so faster than their SE counterparts, altho some people have pulled 14.1's out of mostly stock SE-R's.
The VQ35 (engine in the V6 Altima) has a TON more low end power than the J32, thus off the line it will take the CL-S almost every time. I could pull 2.1 60's on stock tires with my ex-gf's 03 Maxima automatic (same drivetrain/weight as the altima) without even brake-tq'ing. The automatics have pretty shitty gearing once into 3rd, so from a highway roll they slow down considerably. My CL-S6 would womp on her Maxima after 40mph. I've raced a couple 5 speed Altima's and altho they are faster, from a roll the CL-S6 still inches away. From a slow roll or a stop they are definitely faster unless the CL-S has some really sticky tires and a good driver.
Another thing to remember is that the Altima weighs only 3225lbs, versus the CL-S which is 3450lbs.

Drifting
i've raced an altima se-r. 50-110. tied once. won by a fender once. i'm not sure why i beat him but it happened. maybe a miss shift. maybe he bounced off of the rev. limiter.

IMHO, the SE-R is MUCH closer performancewise to the 3.5SE than the TLS/CLS is to the TLP/CLP. The power difference (at least on paper) is pretty negligible (10hp/2lb-ft), with similar acceleration times and governed topends set about 20mph lower in the 3.5SE than in the SE-R (130mph vs 150mph). Although the SE-R's braking and handling is pretty impressive, the ride is a little hard when compared with the 3.5SE.
Bottomline: The SE-R is harder edged version of the Altima 3.5SE.
