i have a guy who wants to challenge me... 5.0 stang auto with intake and exhaust. i was thinking a 20mph run from 1st gear up to 110 or so. what do you guys think? worth putting $$ down?

you should have no problem with him...most bolt-on 5.0's are pushing at most 230rwhp...I think if you do a highway pull you should be able to take him...but I wouldnt run for money, just run for the bragging rights (you know like "my V6 beat your V8...hahaha)

What year Stang....and if he has intake and exhaust...he probably means intake = new plenum, and exhaust new heads and cam. 5.0s are hardly ever that lightly modified..parts are too cheap.
I say no money....just run him for fun.

And when you say exhaust is it just a muffler, a cat back, or are we talking full headers back exhaust? There are too many variables and those cars are beasts. They have shit hp, but they make crazy tq. From a roll you should win, from a dig, it could go either way. This is all considering his motor is still fresh.
FYI those are GM trannies.
Built mustang autos are either C4's or C6's as the stock AOD is a piece of shit when the HP goes above 300

Had a 95 5.0 with some bolts (catback, headers, throttlebody) Was really not that fast but from 0-30 it was much faster than the CLS i have now. Once you get up in MPH it was coughing and weezing.
Get him on the highway.

Yeah, i miss that thing. Find that i used the lowdown power much more often than i use the old Vtech.

I recently ran up against a new stand v8 auto from off the line. He pulled on me because I spun up the front wheels in 1st and then a little in 2nd. But I soon stopped his pulling away and started to gain some back after going into 3rd. At 95 MPH I shut down and was only about 1 1/2 car lengths behind. If this had been a rolling start, I would have walked away and beat him by 4 or 5 cars; easily. If I got a better lunch off the line, I would have won by a couple of cars.

Yeah but you have an SC + all the bolt-ons, so you should be able to beat even a mildly modded GT.
If you guys keep up all this "racing from a roll" line, you're gonna be the next 'Supra guys'.
Last time I checked funny cars dont race from a roll.

hell no, I wouldn't put money on this unless you made dam sure there was no spray and very, very few mods (i.e. strap on cone filter cat-back system)... simple fuel pressure adjustments, rip out various parts of the exhaust, those things get fast quickly

Why not just run for fun? Does he have stock gears? What year is his stang? If he has stock gears, the intake mod is just a CAI and not complete upper/lower plenum, and he has full exhaust, it should be a close race, but I'd think you could win. If he's got a tired 302 w/ alot of miles, you should definitely win.......but I don't know what type of driver he is or you are. I've also seen 5.0's w/ intake, gears, exhaust and slicks run 12.5 @ 103......so anything's possible. Good luck...let us know how it turns out.

If he wants to run you for money, but is real quiet about it... I definitely wouldn't run him. It seems at the track, the only cars that beat me are 5.0 mustangs. And you have *no* clue what they're going to run. One guy's 5.0 will run a laughable 17 second quarter, the next guy will run a 11 second quarter. They don't sound markedly different (both noisy). Then one guy will run a 9 second... although that guy LOOKED like he would run a 9 second or something close... (12 inch hoosiers I think.... freaking ridiculously wide)

You live in TX - I know plenty of guys from my stang sites that live in TX. If you can't find any fast ones and would like to, I can find out where and when you can meet up.
