00 Eclipse 5spd death! hehe =)
Well my cousin has a 00 eclipse w/ cai and always talks about how good his skills are with shifting and how he has burned alot of cars on the road. When I first got my cls in dec 00 he had beat me b/c I didn't know how to drive (my previous car was a pathfinder). Yesterday we finally had another go at it 1 year and a half later on a empty hwy around my house with a stoplight to stoplight race ... distance was a mile. Well we lined up and as i was adjusting my seats the light turns green (quick light), my cousin is spinning the hell out of his tires and i decided to put it in D1 gate shifter. He gets the jump on me, he has me thru first and second and be for you know it, VTEC baby! I caught his ass like someone grabbing his collar, and just kept going and going and going. It was too funny! Even with the 1.5 car head start, I caught him and demolished what was left of his car. He acknowledge the death and said the only way he is beating my quarter mile is getting a new car or tons of mods

Way to go ..... I previously owned a 99 Eclipse 10th anniversary edition... the car was aggresive looking but needed alot of mods to make it fast.. Great kill.... I like the older eclipses, but the newer ones are crappy and ugly. Mitsubishi made the big change to V6 so insurance rates were not sky high for people under 25 and they opened the doors to the middle aged people who think they are still cool...LOL.. I took one for a test drive and beat the living crap out of it... I dumped the freaking clutch every chance I had and the freaking thing still felt like it took forever to get up in the RPMS ...

Last time I ran the car I had some traction issues(I had just installed urethane motor mounts and I wasn't used to launching with them). I had just changed the plugs and did the motor mounts, I was trapping 96MPH consistently, so the car will probably be a tenth or two faster with some traction now. There are Eclipse GT's faster than me with I/E, a group of two or three at 14.5, one guy with an ATX and a level ten upgrade ran a 14.4 with I/E and a downpipe. Don't underestimate 3G's, you might run into one thats modded and has a competent driver behind the wheel, if so you've got a fight on your hands

Crap so you mean I have to give respect to these silly new non-turbo eclipses too? Aw shucks, I was so used to only respecting the old school AWD talons and eclipses with 16G or 20G turbos.

We are in the same boat as you guys, we get MASSIVE gains from headers, but they are EXPENSIVE(the most expensive, Hytech, who also builds Steph Papadakis' turbo manifold, are 1700 dollars!!! RPW makes the cheapest, 400 dollars). We get about 27HP peak, and a 41HP gain at the end of the powerband(everyone sees this and calls BS, but I've seen the dyno charts, and besides, it gains like that for a lousy 200 RPM). Downpipes give us guys with California emmisions good gains(18HP or so) because we have 3 catalytic converters. Speaking of which, how many do you guys have? I don't think any auto Eclipse GT is gonna give a Type-S much of a fight, the fastest one without a level ten belongs to my friend Dan, it runs 15.2@91MPH, not bad, but it still won't touch a Type-S ATX or 6-speed.

with as little respect as the 3g eclipse seems to get from the import enthusiast crowd, you ought to be able to surprise quite a few folks with times like that...

I have suprised quite a few people. Hondaeater is my handle on Club3G, I did it as a joke and it kinda stuck, I don't use it on other message boards though. I had a kid with an Integra GSR 4-door talk a bunch of crap to me one time, I met him up at our local track and smoked him 3 or 4 times, each time by about 8 car lengths. THEN, I hopped in my wife's Escort ZX2 and beat him by a car(mainly because I treed him so bad, .56 light to a .99 light.)
