~cutting Plexiglass~

Does anyone know the best way to cut plexiglass its about 1/4 in. thick do i have to take it to a shop to get it cut?? or is it something at home I can use??

I used to cut the stuff when I was in the picture framing business. Get a plexi knife. You score the cut several times and then snap it. Don't peel the mask until after you make the cut.

home depot sells a special knife that scores it to cut it

yea, it's easy. the knife is curved and just drag it accross the plexiglass. just be carfull

i make license plate covers out of 1/4 all the time, cut it with whatever you want, sand edges, - then buff out on a benchgrinder with buffing wheel and plastic compound, edges come out crystal clear

I was also in the picture framing business. Just buy the cutting device at home depot and score it about 4 times applying a fair amount of pressure. Then, with the cut up, bend the plexi in half and it ought to break on the line you cut. You can also cut it with a really fine toothed jigsaw. Make sure it's secure, if it startes shaking all over the place you may crack it. Good luck

I use a roto-zip tool mounted in a portable b&d vise table. I move the plexi over the cutting bit. Very fast, easy to control, does all kinds of shapes easily.

They make special saw blades for cutting plexiglass.

Hey i tried the jig saw deal once it cut it right but it was getting so hott the plex was melting back together after i cut it i havent got this special blade yet but the rotozip deal looks sweet i may try that for real thanks CL brothers...
