I would say that if you can, try and talk them into totalling the car if it works out for you in the end. This way your not finding all kinds of little things going wrong with it.

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
That's a pretty stupid theory.
No airbags either so who knows if you had hit the sign 1" to the left you the car would have gone in a completely different trajectory, ejecting you from the car, with the car to one side and your brains splattered across the ditch.

Sorry to hear about this dude, but Im with these guys, thats a retarded theory. Seeing guys fucked up for life for something that could have been easily prevented is pretty sad.
Back to your car, Cant see under the hood, but it doesnt look like it will be totalled, and looks like damage wont leave any non-repairable problems. Should look, and drive just like before the accident if handled by a good body shop.

I've heard that "theory" used many times by people who don't like to wear seat belts. Another version of it from younger kids is "if I don't die in the crash, my parents will kill me afterwards -- so what's the difference?"
Even Kayne knows not to be too cool for the "safe" belt.

As far as the total issue goes, just depends on the current value of the vehcile but you all know that. My friend got into a major accident in his 02 TlS 2 years ago and it costed the ins company 18k to fix it which means the value of the vehicle was more than 18k at that point so it was worth the fix. Cls now a days go anywhere from 12k to 25k depending on year, tranny, etc.., so it all depends. But i really hope that they fix it, cause you are right,
THIS CAR IS IRREPLACEABLE.

On the other hand, unlike my friends TLS, my very first car (new audi 1.8t 2001) with 10k miles on it had a very similar accident such as this, back in summer of 2002. Otherwords very similar damages. And the ins company classified it as totaled. I was obviously dissapointed cause of it being my very first car obtaining it by myself without anyones help. Big accomplishment for a 24 year old still in collage. So there i was with a totaled vehcile, got 18k back from them and i went and purchased a used 01 CLS with 34k miles on it. And i have never been better. Heck i am somewhat glad that i crashed the audi cause now i realize how much better the japanese vehilces are over the german's for the price. IMO, if it does get totaled, just learn from my mistate and know that sometimes good things do come out of sceniros such as this. So keep youir head up and hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

Holy Hell Darrin, what caused you to hit the sign mang ?
Such sadness to see your car like that. Not going to be totalled though. I am like you, I used to not wear my belt either (even after flipping a car), I have gradually made myself put it on every time I get into my CLS, and now it is not an issue. I did not wear it more for rebelious reasons, but nevertheless, wear the damn thing from now on!
