Following that theory the whole CL forum should be locked and only available for searching

that actually looks good with the silver trim. i have the wood trim and would have to go with a wood knob, but why?

i want to paint the silver piece that borders the gate taffeta white to match the exterior when i get a chance...

Is this thread really going to be locked? I just wanted to gather everyone's different shift knobs all in one thread.

Painted shift knob, simple mod, I'm surprised more people don't do it.

Is that the 04+ TL shift knob? Got any bigger pics of it? That thing looks good. I just ordered mine today.

I gently pried it up with an old putty knife wrapped in tape. I think it was just held on with double sided tape.

it was indeed held on by double sided tape...im doing this now. when you get it off, its just one piece of plastic with the "type-s" stuck inside, how do you get to the piece to paint it body color?

You need to carefully remove the gray paint off the backside. Make sure you don't remove any of the chrome or red in the "S", the chrome around the edge is the main part to be cautions around. I used a very fine sand paper then polished with plastic polish. Then you can paint it & stick it back on, I think I used a little silicone.

Its been years since I did this so maybe I shouldn't have said it was a simple mod, but I made a bunch of em in the 90s when the red type R emblems were in style.

Sorry to slightly hijack, but my car came with a lame aftermarket knob and I've been looking into buying another. Do I only need to buy a shift knob to make it fit? Or is there something about a boot as well?

Also could I use the Automatic shift knob on a manual? (I have a 6SPD)

Farabeast - That's an awesome mod, I like what you've done with your vehicle overall as well, very tasteful.

If you're looking into getting a new shift knob. Get the new TL knobs. Search for TL-S shift knob and there's a thread with pictures. Look very good. I actually ordered one.

Here's the link to it.

if anyone even cares about this thread anymore:

with my wood trim, the silver shift gate was the only thing in my interior that was silver. just wanted a change, and i really like my new body colored shift gate and knob.

I just got my TL knob in the mail. I've read all the threads but can't seem to seperate the boot from the knob. I pulled down the boot a little and see a small white clip thing. Please advise,
Thanks.

You gotta un-clip it from the bottom of the boot. You take off your shift plate thing and pull it up and you will see where it clips on from the bottom. Just un-clip it and then twist your shift knob out.

Hope this doesn't come across as too stupid of a question but...

Since the auto shift knob has no button can I basically use any shift knob on the market?

Are they universal?
