$9000 of Front End Damage!!
So last weekend in NY we had a couple inches of snow here. Driving right down my street, attempt to slow down at a stop sign from about 15-20mph, and got nothing. Must have been pure ice because the car slid for almost 250 feet, before I hit a telephone pole almost dead on. The airbag didn't deploy, and there is no engine damage at all. Bumper was crushed, and hood took a pretty large hit as well, both need replacing. Fenders are untouched, along with wheels/tires. So basically, its the bumper, the hood, and all the parts in front of the engine that needs to be repaired/replaced.
After going to the same guy who repaired perfectly, an almost totalled bmw convertible, I was absolutely shocked at the price he gave me. $8,000! I should be able to get pic's this weekend of the car but until then I can't give you much more details. It was driving fine aside from minor tire rubbing when turning back to my house.
I was really interested to hear if there were any serious mechanics/autobody people who can figure out where this total comes from. The guy also stated it should take 2 weeks to repair.

that does not sound right at all. i pretty much have the same damage as you but i havent gone to get an estimate yet but lets think about this. bumper 500 hood 500 extra parts 500 paint 500 labor 1000= 4000 worth of damage AT MOST. my fenders are ok and my headlights are fine too. Man i am going to be pissed if its going to cost me over 3k to fix this thing that happen with less then 3 mph of impact...
i think you are getting ripped off!!!!!

2 weeks to repair thats a long time
i dont know i guess you have some frame damage too but dosent make sense to me if your airbag did not deploy.
oh well post some pics that will give us a good indication of how much damage there really is...

Where is my super sauce?
Read the itemization of your estimate. It should all be there is black and white.
What does the cost of the estimate matter? The variance between shops is usually not that great. It's going to be paid out of insurance (right?). Have your insurance haggle if they don't think the repair is appropriate.
I'd just be concerned that I took it to a reputable place with a reputation for quality repair. Require them to use OEM parts.

Headlights were working fine, along with fogs. I guess I'll also have to wait to see the list of items this weekend. The hood though I know to be almost $1000.
The guy does top quality work, thats for sure- problem with the high cost is that I am not reporting it for insurance so I can avoid future rate increases etc.

Safety Car
hmm i dont know about that number...over summer i got into an accident where my bumper and hood was damaged, just like you, except my lights were replaced too, and it was arround $4000 after labor. The engine wasnt touched (at least, thats what I was told), and it took 4 weeks (4 of the longest in my LIFE, aside from the time i got my tranny replaced). Fuck im glad it doesnt snow here
I feel for you man

the accident i was in, i didn't think was that bad either, but it ended up to be about $6000 worth of damage. $3000 was from parts, and $3000 was from labor. Pulling the frame alone costs about $500 (all labor). The hood, bumper, headlights, front fenders all needed to be replaced, as well as the stuff inside the hood that holds everything in place. You should have a very itemized list that explains every single cost. Let me know if you need to know how much a certain part of the front of the car costed me

Sounds like you have some subframe damage and also some frame damage. out of your $9000 estimate I would say 3-5000 is just labor.
pay your damn deductable and get the process moving... Unless you just have $9000 to pull out of your ass for repairs - OUCH!@!
