The rotors are 11.8" so you plus another inch (radius or 2" dia) for the caliper and you're at about 14" inside the wheel. I don't know how much spacing there is on the inside of a 15" rim but I think that's too close for comfort if not impossible.

Don't you know TSX is not the US Accord????
The size of the brake on a 4-banger accord are different than the V6 accord.
What I know 15" is not able to clear the caliper on a 1999 TL. So I doubt the brake on TSX will smaller than a 1999 TL or a 4-banger Accord.

I just put my 16" acura TL winter wheels(off a 2001, not a new TL) on and they just barely clear the calipers, there is NO WAY a 15" wheel would fit on a TSX.

I picked up a set of Semperit Sport (Can't remember the full name) Its an Austrian made tire owned by continental. I got em for cost ($67 each) but they can be had for under $100 each in stores.

Hell, even the Motormaster IceTrac tires offer a good value for there money. There made by Michelin and are a variation of Artic Alpines.

Happy driving.
Hey Domn,

What size are those snows / steelies you picked up? Who's your contact for the tires? Would they be willing to do the same "cost" deal for me?

Appreciate the help!

P.S. How do the Semperit's drive so far?

Not to mention they would add to the number of nice cars who have horrible-looking rims in the winter. I don't understand how some people can put up driving for a few months with these ass-ugly wheels, when I see that it makes me want to

Tell you the truth I am surprised how normal/good the TL wheels look on there, I've had them on for a few weeks now and I kind of like the way the car looks. If they came OE only in 17" I think I would have been just as happy as I am with the wheels that came on the car. Even though the wheels I currently have on there are 16's they don't really look bad, its hardly noticeable unless your a car nut.

Just priced a set of Hankooks W300's from Carmodifiers with 16 inch steel rims, installed, balanced and shipped to my door for $850. So far the best price for the type of tired I have found here in Ottawa.

The site is http://www.carmodifier.com/default.asp. The tires I am putting on are the 205/60R16 on a set of 16inch steelies. Very reasonable priced. The $850 was including taxes, and because I am also in Ottawa (they are based here) the shipping charge was only $10 handling . Check em out.

Agree. I also have TL 16" for my winter, i think it looks better than steelies no matter what.

One thing I've found is that there's a much better selection of 215/55-16 than there is of 205/60-16. The difference is pretty minimal, and I'll probably be going with the former size. Most likely Dunlop M3s, which are admittedly a compromise, but a pretty good one for my needs.

$850 sounds a bit too much, I got a quote for a set of steelies & Viking 205/60/16 for under $680 included everything and under $800 for Dunlop M3 Sport. BTW, I am in Toronto. pm me, if you want to know the contact.

just coincidently, I got the same deal from tiretrends online. Have to install them this weekend. Are the steelies from carmodifier universals or knockoffs??

They seem like universals. I looked at TireTrends as well, it worked out to be about $10 cheaper at Car Modifer, just because they was no shipping. Tire Trends were charging almost $10 a tire, but there rims were $6 cheaper. But they looked to be the same black steel rim.

not all steel rims are the same, u can get either the Universal ones or the OEM honda ones that will fit nicely without hubrings and should work with factory lugnuts too

while the universal ones might need aftermarket lugnuts and would require a hubcentric ring if u have vibration problems.

this is precisely why i opted not to get the universals, and instead got the 'replica' knockoff wheels...

I did also but since Tiretrends is in BC you only pay GST. So in the end they were cheaper.

Does know where I can find a good price on the Dunlop M3's in the stock size? I even called tirerack and spoke to a rep. and he said that they were sold out for the season! About a month ago found them for $132 per tire. Now I can only find them for about $175-$180. I should have ordered them then!

Thanks

If you Canucks will allow a Yank to share his input on the matter:

I picked up a set of 215/50/17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 for like $575 shipped from TireRack a few months ago. I'm glad I did, because now TireRack doesn't even list this tire in that size, and the next closest (225/45/17) is selling for like 20% more.

I'll be putting these tires on the stock rims in a couple weeks. I have read very good things about them, hope they are true. Then I gotta buy some new rims+summer tires come spring. That should be fun. Hope the new Toyo T1-R is released in the U.S. by then.

EDIT: This confirms what Driven said...the early bird gets the worm

I was in the same boat and received an e-mail from tirerack saying the same regarding the M3s. I ended up getting the Blizzacks, I've had them before and they provided excellent traction in the snow and ice, but in the dry and handling wise it was very poor on my 91' NX2000. (I had Bridgestone S-03s for summer tires on my old car).

I had them mounted last friday on the stock TSX rims, not going to drive hard on them because I don't want to wear down the multicell compound on the Blizzack tires before the snow comes and the lower load rating. I actually think they handle better than the Michelin stock tires but I am not going to test it and risk my TSX.

dood that size is 6% different that stock, thats really going to screw up your ABS and VSA sensors.

they say u should stick to something within 3% difference, but i would stick within 1%.

First of all, those Nokian tires are way too expensive. The local dealer told me it'd cost me almost $1,000 (US) for the rim and the tires, partially due to the size issue (16 to 17). Second of all, the Acura dealer (service dept.) told me 1, the rims are coated so salt is not an issue , and 2, I only need to put snow tires on the front if I really wanted to. So I guess I may not even need to get anything for the winter.

Excerpt from Tirerack: This is because if you use two dissimilar types of tires on your vehicle, you'll have a vehicle that has a "split" personality. One end of the vehicle won't react and perform the same as the other in the dry, wet, slush and snow conditions you'll encounter before the end of winter. Especially in emergency situations, you'll find that your vehicle will probably understeer in one condition and oversteer in another. It is preferable to keep your vehicles handling as consistently as possible by "matching" all four tires.

Nokian Expensive? I bought Nokian RSi's for a little more than what Michelin X-Ice's cost, hardly expensive compared to others in it's class.

I thought it sounded a bit fishy from the dealer . But how about keeping the stock wheel on? If salt won't damage the wheels as they said, plus routine wash, can I just put the snow tire on and save $200 on the steelies?

I am using the stock wheels for winter setup and will get aftermarket rims for my summer setup.

I think it is better to have two sets of wheels rather than having to pay for mounting and balancing the tires on one set of rims. Mounting and balancing by me runs about $15 to $20USD.
