Will This Work with 1 Inch Drop?

I'm looking at the Enkei RP05, 17/8 +48. Tires: I have bought are Falken ZE 912, 225/50-17. I have the modest-est of drops with the A-spec suspension. the difference compared to stock is 1.5%. Any rubbing issues or, will this look like a 'cartoon'?

IMO I would get a bigger wheel like a 18x8 or 19x8 or if you wanted to do a 17x8 I would consider a slightly bigger drop.

That's a good thought–to increase the drop with other spring/co/s kit. Do you think there might be a rubbing issue with the 225/50-17s on the 17/8 +48 rim now, with my current drop? I think I might be right at the flush with wheel well point.

I really don't think you will have any rubbing issues at all. At one point I was using a 17x8 +45 offset TL wheel and a 235/45/17 tire with a 1.6" inch drop and I had an occasional rub on the fender liner tab up front. I removed the tab and the rubbing went away. If you are set on that wheel you could do a 235/45/17 tire and have almost the same overall diameter with a lower profile tire as the 225/50. Just a thought

With your drop, you will probably be fine at 235mm, but I would stay away from getting too low. I'm at about a 1.5" drop (was nearly tucking on my coilovers before) and have tucked the fender liners in the front. I haven't witnessed any rubbing since.

My general thinking is not that the lowering creates a problem. It is the wheel/tire combo that creates it. The lowering just makes it worse.

That being said I think the setup you propose would be fine. That offset looks high enough. But I would make sure you size the tire as close to OEM OD as possible because if you don't it will look funny.

PS, we get decent prices on Enkei if you need a supplier.

I am running 17x8 48 offset OZ Ultraleggera wheels and 225/45/17 tires and am lowered on tein HTechs. I have no had rubbing issues on the street or even during autocross (knock on wood). As far as the appearance goes, it does not look cartoonish at all. The wheels/tires do not stick out past the lip of the wheel well. The conservative drop leaves a little wheel well gap that tends to prevent the 17's from looking too small. I am very happy with the appearance and am usually very picky about these things

I'm gonna step back and take a deep breath for a couple of weeks on the new rims and tread. I'll just replace the tires, on the stock rims with the Falken 912s. I guess most of my concern comes from the time I replaced the tires on my '92 Saab 9000–where I had major rubbing issues. I KNOW that ain't gonna happen again, with the vast info on this site; i.e. Acurazine sponsors & members alike. And, you can't be sure of anything–until you see it on your car. So, thanks. Everyone.

I had the same problem the first time I bought aftermarket wheels for my 87 CRX. Rubbed everywhere! Fact is I let the guy at the wheel shop sell me what was in stock and I never even heard of offset. That was 10 years ago. I understand your concerns and I think the more time you take the more successful you will be in the end!
