Tire Fitment Issues

Hey all, relative newbie here. Got my 06 TSX 6MT in CGP February of last year. Wasn't feeling the stock rims too much so I got some 05 TL rims (17x8) from a friend. In turn, got a good deal on Bridgestone Potenzas that measure in at 225/50 R17 94W. Used the tire fitment guide on this site to make sure those tires and those rims wouldn't deviate too much from the stock diameter. However, the ride is quite bumpy. When I'm driving at night down the freeway, the projection from the headlights look like they are jarring around. When I hit a small bump it feels like I'm hitting a major pothole when compared to the stock setup. Can someone explain what's wrong with my setup? Are the tires the wrong size for the TL rims? Everything else on my car is stock except for these rims and tires, thanks in advance!

Sounds like its still close to stock diameter. What do you have your tire pressures set to?

Is your wheel & tire combo much heavier than stock? If yes, then maybe your springs/shocks are having a hard time controlling things.

I've been running 225/50-17 Yoko Advan S4's for a couple of weeks, but haven't driven a lot of miles. The 26lb weight of these tires makes them about 3lbs more than OEM. The ride with the 1/4" taller sidewall is not any softer, though; I had some 195/50-16 Toyo Proxes 4s, on another car, and their soft sidewalls caused me to return them for some Kumho ASX's.

A 235/45-17 would have given an overall diameter that would be closer to stock, but I like the larger size - I can use 3rd gear now, for driving around town, and it's still great for passing on two lane roads. Plus, Vtec now lasts more than a two-count, and 6th is now "overdrive". I'll keep an eye out for that headlight thing, but so far I prefer this set-up, trading acceleration for drivability.

Thanks for the info guys. joerockt, don't know the psi I'm running off the top of my head, will have to check the paperwork I got from the guys at America's Tire Company who installed the tires for me. Is there a psi for this setup that would be more beneficial? gdcwatt, I'm assuming you have the same rims, same size tires? If so, you haven't noticed any jarry/bumpy ride at all? I'm thinking the tires that I have may just be too hard for this car???? Argh, I don't know, it's driving me nuts, any further advice would be beneficial, thanks guys!

Might want to get a pressure checker and see. If its over inflated, that would cause a harsher ride.

I think most set their tire pressure to 32-34 psi.

My Advan S4's are 225/50-17 on 06 OEM 7" rims. I'll have to get back to you on the bouncing, after I put some more night time miles on the car.
