Question Shocks vs struts

I remember reading somewhere on here that the only difference between shocks and struts were that one of them are for the back and the other are for the front. I was looking to buy some koni yellows, but I was wondering if I should replace front and rear, or just the rear. I've heard of some people replacing just the rear, but I was wondering if it is worth it to replace all of them at the same time?

I would replace them all at the same time. And I believe the difference between a shock and a strut are the mounting positions. Struts are mounted inside the spring whereas shocks are not. With that being said, the TSX only has struts. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Actually no....

Both are dampers to keep springs in check.

The major difference is, a SHOCK is just a damper, an isolated part of the suspension. Without a shock installed the suspension in the car remains intact: the wheel carrier/knuckle stays firmly in place. Usually with upper and lower control arms, or a multi-link or trailing arm design if in the rear.

A STRUT is a structural member of the suspension. If you take out the strut, the hub carrier is unbolted and the suspension is no longer an assembly. In the typical strut application, there is no upper control arm.

Different cars have different setups front and rear, and whether shocks or struts are used depends on the design of the particular car.

TSXs have shocks front and rear. If you remove the shocks, the knuckles remain in place. An RSX has a strut front end.
