How low can you go?

So i just got back from the shop, had my tein basic installed! The install went smooth and my car is slammed. I have about a one finger gap in the front and a lil over a finger in the back. Im thinking this is a bit to low so im gonna adjust it the next chance i get. I was just wondering to see how low you guys have gone? maybe some pics would be helpful. Really any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks

I am lowered on springs, shocks and a set of 18x8's. I have about two finger gap in the front and roughly two fingers in the back, that’s the lowest I have gone obviously.

Post some pics of your new drop

Lower it until you can turn the wheel all the way to one side and the tire is touching the fender, thats when you know your at the correct height.

Lower it until your wheel hits the wheel well, then pushed the wheel well above the tabs to give an extra 3cm or so.

You'll know you've done it right when you go over a small bump, and you can hear your wheel touch the wheel well

Stock tires, to give you an idea how low it should be!.. at least!

it's pretty bad out here too

i tend to hold up traffic occassionally... because i have to wait for the opposing traffic to drive past.. so that i can go sideways over a speedbump

slightly tucking front and back.

so dBski11, you still have room to adjust.

i haven't had any problems with scraping / bottoming out, and the roads here aren't the best. i'm running oem wheels and tires.

^that is sick!! if only if it was practical

perfect drop! how were you able to drive like that without scraping the wheel well the whole way while driving?
I've tried going that low, but it scrapes as soon as i move an inch :\

any fender work? wheel well removed?

....anybody know approx. how much it would cost for parts and labor to have them installed since he got it done free?

I would do it whenever I plan on getting my Tein's, but I just don't have any of the right equipment. I don't even have a floor jack.

most body shops are around 70$/hour. Usually takes 2-4 hours to do a coilover install (non-rushed)..

you could probably do it with a stock scissor jack... just do 1 corner at a time
just need standard wrenchs, and a good socket set, mainly

Time to buy a floor jack. You can get a nice one for around $50 or so.

Nope...no modifications. I guess it's helpful having a conservative offset. The Mugens are +55

here's some advice for those with a lower offset

1. push the wheel well above tab
2. use the handle of a hammer, or alike, and push the tab up so that it's bent up, almost alining with the wall of the fender.

it'll give you a good 1/2" of more room to play with from the tire - fender
and a good 2/3" or so of room to go even lower

are you running 35 series tires on those 18s cause it makes your wheel/tire combo look really lost.

I love your drop but Colts is right, it looks like there's no tire on there.

I'm at a tight finger gap on all four corners. I would like to go about a quarter inch lower but as it is, I only clear the ramp at my job's parking garage by less than an inch; I'm worried that if I drop my car any more my front lip is going to get destroyed.

I realize it's a matter of taste, and style, and intended purpose of the car. But still ... strikes me as . (I'm also an old fart, take my perspective with a big ol' grain of salt.)

nice car, where did you got for Mugen wheels? is your car still under warranty? they told me that if you put those after market wheels/rims on your car, it'll void the warranty. is that right?

They can't void your warranty unless they can prove that specific part caused the damage.
On that note, wheels can't really do any harm to your car, unless you get something way out of the ordinary, but at that point, it'd be harm done caused by stupidity

On my CL I was tucking about an inch on the front and a little bit of tread on the back. The TSX is still stock but I want to get a drop like the OP's. Dbski, does it scrape a lot a the height you have it now?

If the height is adjusted to the point where there's no preload on the spring when the car is raised off the ground, then you are too low.

i can't find any good pictures but about a finger gap in the front and no gap in the rear

-1 degree of camber w/ no mods in the rear
the front fender liner is starting to show some signs of "wear" haha

it's really not that low tho.. i can go straight thru speed bumps and dips. you know what that means... it's time to go lower.

if the car wasn't corner balanced, i would go lower.. a lot lower..

mad props to etarui!

I'd like to see how low my car would be if i went down all the way.... there's a good 3.5-4" before its set all the way down
Coils as it sits right now (that middle ring is tight now, i didn't leave it like that!! :o)

tucking half the tire more or less

wong05tsx, your TSX is sick! So clean. I'll snap a picture of my coils tomorrow. I've got a little bit left... I'm on Tanabe's and I've noticed a stiffer ride with the lower setting. I'm thinking about upgrading my suspension to handle the difference in travel and preload.
