HELP- Tein coilover install problem
Take a look at these pics. That definitely does not look right. I double checked the parts diagram and I know I used all of the parts it called for. Was I supposed to use the stock bumpstops on the shock, or the Tein ones? I need the car tomrrow so I have to figure this out ASAP. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
James

there should be a large ring of rubber around that part sticking out, did you not install that? if you did, then the whole thing should be grabbed and held down beneath the suspension hole.
I would think to use the Tein bumpstops.

Everything is exactly as it is in teh diagram. Even matches the diagram from Tein that came with it. When I pulled the stock suspension out, I used some spring compressors and pulled the stock top mount out. It transferred directly to the Tein coilovers. The stock top mounts came out in one piece so I don't see how I could be missing anything......

Going to have to wait to pull them off and double check everything.

Problem solved
I fixed it. What I did was take each one off and pull the Tein dust cover out and use the stock one. The stock one has a hard metal spacer built in that keeps the shock valve from pushing up too much.
Woohoo. Time for a test drive now.

I'll try and get some pics taken tomorrow. I want to let the springs settle and adjust them up a little higher. Just a tad too low for me right now.

I just puled one of my stock struts out of its box; #9 washer holds the strut down, and it's pretty thick. The washer on the dust cover is not very thick. If it lets go, the strut rod is gonna bust through your hood

The gold spacer is for the front and the thicker one is for the rear. It depends on what came with your new suspension and the size of the shaft. Some systems require you to reuse some of the original hardware and some will require new hardware due to the shaft dia. and they are generally included with the package. But you should always have the same amount of hardware on the new system regardless if you are using some or all of the original stuffs.
My Koni system provide new #17, 5, 15, 9 & 13, but requires enlarging the hole for the original #12.

Well I've got the drivers side done now. Have to go to lowes and pick up a new spacer for the #9 as I've lost one. I am able to reuse all of the stock parts.

The Tein instructions show the proper integration of the stock parts and the parts that supply. You can download them from their website if they didn't come with the kit......

From the other question, I meant that I used the stock spacers. The Teins did not come with new ones.

To be honest they are not that bad......
You know, they kinda expect that you know how to do installs before you even crack open the box. I f you REALLY need the instructions you are already taking chances. These are really not meant for DIYers.
I have never had an issue with Teins. Hell, I barely even use the instructins, except when I use an EDFC

But, I have made the error of leaving out the #9 washer before on my first spring install ever, way back in 1997. That is why I recognized it right away

I have done suspension work on my other honda's and my Jetta as well. i guess I was used to having new parts already on the shocks so the only thing I had to transfer over was the top mount.
The car feels great now that everything is installed correctly. I took a nice off ramp on 405 this morning in Bellevue. I think a rear swaybar and some better rims and tires would really help set things up just perfectly.

James
