Finalizing Tire Selection....Help Wanted!
Hey guys,
I am going to be ordering some tires for my 18x7.5 Ron Jon's in the next two weeks but still not sure which ones to go with. I have decided to go with 225/40 instead of 235/40 because IMO the 235's stick look a little too beefy. I know its closer to stock but i didn't like the look as much.
As for the tires, i have been reading and searching these forums for weeks now and still have mixed opinions as do many of you. I don't have pretty much any expierence with tires in general however, i know the stocks on my new 06 STINK and the yokohama AS430's i had on my old 04 were great grippy tires.
Here is the order of what i would like to get out my March to November tires:
1) tread wear
2) handling
3) wet traction
Because i really want a set of tires that will give me at least 30k i was thinking of going with all seasons since there are some 60k mile warranty on them, in which case i was looking at these:
1) Falken Ziex-512 (if i go A/S i would most likely go with these, $89 at home for me)
2) Yokohama Avid H4S
3) Kumho ASX
However, do you guys think summer only tires would be a better choice? If that is what i decide on then i was looking at these:
1) Falken 452
2) Kumho Supra 712 OR SPT
3) General Exclaims
4) Fuzion ZRi
Any help, opinions, comments on individual tires would be greatly appreciated

Skip the all-seasons and go straight for the Summer Only performance tires. You can actually find summer tires that have a treadwear rating close to, if not higher, than the stock Michelins, which many people have easily gotten 60k miles out of.
If you're willing to sacrifice a little noise comfort, the BF Goodrich G-Force line provides excellent traction in both wet and dry and have good treadwear ratings, but suffer from above average road noise. The set of G-Force Sport tires I have on my summer wheels is likely to last at least another season, if not two, and are not too expensive at around $100 each.

I talked to NTB and they can give the Falken 512's for $90 and the Fuzion ZRi's for $102 so it just depends on summer only or all season and for the tread warranty i kind of want to go with the all seasons but was hoping for some more opinions!

To piggyback off this thread, while staying on topic, what would be advised for an 18x8 +42 offset wheel - 235/40/18, or 225/40/18? 235 apparently can cause rubbing issues with enough of a drop, but would the 225 be enough tire (even though it would avoid the rubbing)?
Thanks and sorry to semi-hijack!

Still, $127 is not a bad price for what is an excellent handling tire. I have been pleased, particularly with the break-away characteristics at the limit. I've had a couple of at the edge moments in the car with these tires and the progressive and linear break-away characteristic allowed me to judge the limits very accurately.
