Can't decide on a Tire

Well I've decided to buy a set of wheels that are 18x8 with a +42mm offset...

I've been told go with 225/40-18 or 235/40-18.

Someone told me that he thought 235/40 was the best choice, but that most people were running 225/40... so I am a little confused.

What are the pro's and con's of each, if I will be putting the tires on the above mentioned wheel size?

Also, I am going to use these wheels/tires as a summer setup, and use the OEM wheels/tires during the winter.

So I will be buying the wheels and tires soon, but won't be putting them on for a few more months. Anyways, I'm really confused about which tire to choose, as there are so many to choose from

I used to own an 03 RSX Type S, and had 18 eneki's (can't remember which one) and had Prada Spec 2's ( I beleive they were 225/40) and I thought they were pretty good.

Are those a good tire to go with if I want very good dry handling/cornering, as well as a decent tire if it rains. Again, I'm putting importance on dry handling, but just as long as there is minimal traction in the rain....

What other tires should I be looking at, as the Prada Spec 2 is really the only tire I have first hand knowledge of?

Thanks for any input anyone can give!

Toyo T1-R, but the Prada is known to have a stiffer sidewall.
+42 on an 8 is a bit marginal, but if you're settled on the wheel, then fair dos.
I believe 235 is more accurate than 225.
www.carbibles.co.uk/tyres will let you try various tyres sizes so you can see which works out closest to matching the stock wheel/tyre combo, which your speedo will have been calibrated for.

Now when you say that, what exactly does that mean? Is the wheel to small/to big??? I don't really understand all these sizes, but I'm trying!

+42 is the offset - this is how much the wheel's centre bore is offset from being inline with the actual centre of the wheel.
So, the OEM wheels are +55, which means they sit further in.
+42 means the wheel will sit out (more in line with the wheel arch) but as the OEM is 17x7, and these new ones you're planning on are 18x8, then you've more wheel to start with before you consider the offset.
Bottom line is you'll probably be fine, but there's a very small chance you could find the wheel rubs on cornering hard or slow tight turns (full lock on).
Normally the recommendation is to stay +45 - +50 when going bigger.

i agree with buyin the toyo's t1 those are one of my favorite tires even though i think that lose there tread a bit fast, but i do drive alot everyday

also with a 18 x 8 +42 offset and 225/40 tire, you will not rub, i am running that setup on my car right now which is dropped and i have no rubbing issues at all.

Just to make sure guys, Im about to buy the wheels, which are 18x8 with +42mm offset. That tire dimension is ok for the TSX right?

Also, from what I understand, 235/40/18 is the best fit, is that correct?

I've been told 225/40 works, but 235 will be closer to oem spec regarding keeping the odometer correct? Is that right?
