Cool Can u recommend good tires?

Tried search but was unsuccessful.
With a plethora of choices, its pretty tough picking decent tires.

I'm looking to replace my OEM tires on my OEM 17 wheels. Here are my criteria

1) Quieter ride, less road noise
2) Good grip in Summer, decent rain traction, not concerned about snow
3) Thinner side profile, I think that can be fixed by picking the right size.
4) Straight sidewall, don't like the rounded edge of some tire's sidewalls.

I was looking at the Goodyear Eagle F1.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The tire you are looking at is the best. But, it's a bit pricey.

Something else that's worth a look are the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's, but they're even more pricey.

2 of the best tires on the market.

There are so many good tires out there that it is tough to pick one. You may get a number of recommendations; mine is the General Exclaim UHP. Good ride, handles well, excellent in the rain and has I think an interesting tread pattern. The bonus is it's cheap. The OE size is around $100 each shipped. The problem with your desire for a lower profile is that the OE wheels really aren't wide enough to support that change. You'd need to go to a 235/45x17 size to get your "thinner" sidewall and maintain the same diameter. This tire should really be installed on a wheel no less than 7 1/2" wide, preferably 8" (the 04-08 TL OE setup for example). Others have done it I'm sure (install the wider tire on the OE 7" wheel), but that doesn't make it right. If you're going to stick with the OE wheels, I'd suggest staying with the 215/50x17 size tire.

www.1010tires.com seems to give you a good comparison. They have noise rating, wet/dry traction rating, handling rating, comfort, treadwear, etc.. along with reviews.

Damn, was too late to edit.

Here's your tires. http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?ti...+F1+Asymmetric

I wasn't sure what size tire you were looking for, but here's the one with the best review when I searched for 225/19/35.

If you can spend the $$, the Continental ExtremeContact DW will fit your bill. It's hard to get a more comfortable, better wet-handling tire. If $$ is an issue, the Ventus V12 evo is an excellent choice.

It's not a performance tire. Also, it sacrifices dry handling because it's an A/S tire, whereas the OP wants dedicated summer.

All fine UHP A/S tires. The DWS will be best in the snow & wet, but the RE960s are a big hit amongst the members here.

I didn't think he specifically want summer tires...but in any case, at 280, and if he has a spirited driving style..that's a set of tires a year! That's my experience! But again, he didn't mention tread wear...so maybe a 280 is fine.

Bought some 18s for the tsx a month and a half ago and got the continental extreme contacts and they are awesome! Ive always been a yokohama guy since rocking the old es100s and my last set were s drives. But these continental extremes are what i would buy again when i need new tires. They also have a 40,000 mile warranty, cant beat that with a baseball bat!

Cool

I'm leaning towards Bridgestone's Potenza RE960AS Pole Position.

i just bought a set of these from tirerack.

i was debating back and forth between a dedicated summer vs. all-seasons even though i'll be switching to my OEM wheels for the winter. i still went w/ the all-seasons just b/c of the flexibility/handling in all conditions. while it's on the pricier side, the feedback on tirerack and on a-zine has always been really positive for the re960's.

if these are the tires you plan to get, you should think about buying them now. they're $141 right now (normally like $157 i think?). not sure if it's a sale or just a general price drop, but i don't see the retail price listed anymore. and it's like $2 less then the re760's which are summer tires. and there's and you're eligible for a $75 amex card. i thought it was a pretty good deal and i pulled the trigger.

Mine runs on General Exclaim UHP at a slightly down size 225/45/R17. They stick way better than Michelin OEM and even in wet conditions. They also last fairly long, currently at 35K mi and easily good for another 10K mi. They do howl noticeably more at highway speeds than Michelin once they get beyond half-worn.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I got my tires over the weekend and installed them along with Ingall's Rear Camber Kit.

So filling the following criteria of good wet traction, comfort and performance, sporty look, and low road noise I went with:

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....X&autoModClar=

I got them in 45's so the low profile adds a sporty look. They perform better on every aspect compared to the OEM Michelins. Handles corners with confidence. Road noise is reduced drastically.

Will post pics soon!

That tire is a copy cat of Bridgestone Turanza with serenity. Flip the curve grove 180 degree and move it left and you got a bridgestone.

I came from the stockies to Yokohama YK520 to what i'm using now: Bridgestone poleposition 960s. I love the 960s. IMO it's not sticky enough for me. I'm a very agressive driver in the turns. But if you're looking for something of equal quality but more geared towards comfort, go with the Turanza with serenity. Other good non high performance is the mechilin primacy.

I myself will most likely be switching to the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 for more grip. I dont get snow here and i dont really take my car to snowy areas.

Word of advice, when you go to places to read reviews of any tire, put into consideration what type of car that person drives and their driving style. ie: STi or Evo commenting on the Yokohama Avids/YK520 saying that it doesnt grip well. Well no shit, STi and Evo are high performance car, they should be using something of the High performance line like Bridgestone 960s,RE760, RE11.

Good luck with your search!

another nod for the turanza serenity. i just got a pair today to replace my OE michelins that had a nail in one of them. i only rode on them for a few miles, but its quieter and sticker than the michelins. i spent a few hours last night researching on tirerack.com and narrowed it down to either the 960s or turanza serenity. ultimately went with the turanza serenity from costco due to it being cheaper.

+1. Got these a few weeks ago too, and so far pretty happy with them. I was going to go with Costco as well, but Discount (if you have one where you live) beat the price by $25, so I went with them. Also, if you have bad luck with tires (nails, screws, flats, etc.) like I do, I would consider getting Discount's certificates of replacement. For these tires it was $20 per tire, and basically, for the life of the tire (tread > 3/32"), if anything happens to the tire and it cannot be repaired, you get a free replacement. Not pro-rated warranty, like most places, but a full new tire. Just something to consider.

Depends on how much you're looking to spend, I had Toyo Proxes T1Rs and I loved 'em, they're a bit pricey, but a damn good tire
